WDW pass at Disneyland question

Hello!

I'm anxiously planning our trip of next June to Disneyland/Cruise :cool1: and I've got a question. Living in Ohio, trips to WDW are much more common than trips to DL (15 vs. 2). I've read here, and on other boards, that WDW park hoppers are valid at DL. Has anyone here gone that route as opposed to buying DL passes? If so, what were the advantages/disadvantages of doing so?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Melissa

The one problem with doing that is that unless you buy the no expiration option, you have to use the tickets (at WDW or DL) within 14 days of the first use. So once you have been to WDW, you better speed over to the west coast before the tickets expire. However, if you do decide to buy the non-expiration option, the price difference between that and DL tickets would not make it worth it.

If you have leftover WDW passes with no-expiry, you could use them at DL. However, if you go to WDW regularly, I'd save the passes for WDW, as DL passes are cheaper. (And if that's what the above poster was saying, then I apologize for the repeat. )

I'm assuming you have either some of the old hoppers that didn't expire or some of the new non-expiring MYW tickets lying around with days on them.

Many people say do not do it because a day's admission to Disneyland costs less. But it may indeed be worth it. Here is why.
The average WDW visit usually takes about a 7 day ticket. The Average DLR visit takes about a 3 day ticket. Because you don't go to DLR that often, you may want 4.

Suppose you have some stray WDW tix lying around. You don't have enough days to cover a WDW visit but do have 4 days worth to cover a DLR visit. Well you'd be wise to use them at DLR then.
If you use that ticket at Disney world for a 7 day trip, you can use the 4 days, but then you have to buy a 3 day ticket. Well the price of a 3 day ticket is $216. The price of a 7 day ticket is $233. So by using those 4 days left you saved yourself a whole $17 bucks at WDW. However, using that 4 days worth of tickets at Disneyland saves you the full price of a 4 day ticket at Disneyland which is considerably more than $17.

You see how that works? If you don't have enough stray days to cover a WDW visit but do have enough to cover your DLR visit, you are better off using them at Disneyland. If you have enough stray days left to cover a WDW visit you are better off using them at WDW. If you don't have enough stray days to cover a visit to either, you're better off holding on to them until such time as you do.

I hope that helps.

Now once you get to DLR, you simply present the WDW ticket at the gate. The attendant will call a lead over who will take one day off your WDW ticket and hand you a one day DL ticket. You must do this every day of your visit. If your ticket was a hopper, you get a hopper. If it wasn't, it's a one park only ticket.

Thanks for the responses! I'm going to WDW in November, and I already have a 10 day non-expiring pass bought. We're only going to be using four or five days - and since I already had it snagged before WDW raised their prices this month I got the pass for about $450.

Discounting using the pass at waterparks, etc. (6 options on the old pass) - that makes it about $45 per day at the parks - less than the $53 per day a 3-day park hopper at DL would cost me in 2008. Seems like this may be a good way to go.

I just wonder how long the checking the ticket procedure would take each day...Don't want to get held up too long at the gates! Got to get to Nemo before that three hour line forms!:rotfl2:
