We have a dilemma of what to do next year.

We went to DLR California this year for a change - it was great to do the original park but there were things we missed about WDW. As we stayed for 2 weeks, we bought an Annual Pass will will be good until mid July next year.

One of the big things we missed about WDW was dining plan (whether free or not) - we have got it free and paid in the past and also would have liked to see Harry Potter at Universal - we went to Universal Hollywood but they didnt have it there.

Our cheapest option would be to go back to DLR next year - we would have to go before AP expires to make it 'cheap' - take DD out of 6th form college for at least a week (probably end May/June) - for WDW I would prefer to go beginning August onwards and get free dining.

Pro's (DLR) - cheaper - we would stay off site and maybe get more dates at 50% off at HoJo's, no park passes to pay for

Cons (DLR)- Just been to Disneyland - weather will be cooler (wasnt that hot in July) Won't see Harry Potter, no Free dining, have to take DD out of college

Pro's (WDW) - Free dining, Epcot, water parks, Harry Potter and FOTL if we stay at RPR for a couple of nights, hot weather (but see below!)

Cons (WDW) - expensive - park passes to pay for, hitting the rainy season again (not had much luck avoiding TS's and hurricanes in the past!)

What would you do?

Just reading between the lines here but is sounds like the main reason you are considering a return to DL is that you have the APs but it sounds to me that you have your heart set on WDW
If you spent two weeks at DL on your last trip then you have already got great value from your tickets
We are going to WDW in May 2011 but I am keen to go to DL either late in 2011 or early 2012
Something tells me that you would spend your time in DL thinking about WDW

I was wondering if youd enjoyed your trip to DL - Id seen your posts on the DL board as Im going in Oct for the first time.

One thing to consider is depending what your DD is doing at College she may have exams at the end May/beginning of June

WDW! For every reason other than saving a bit on tickets. As long as you can afford to I would say go for it :thumbsup2

Isn't end of May/June prime exam time for 6th form?

You could be right there - (long time since I was in 6th form LOL) - however she is doing a BTEC in Music (probably) and I think that the emphasis is on course work rather than exams from what she says - still might struggle taking her out though.

I think that you have all got me sussed - the main reason we were thinking of returning to DLR is the AP's - would love to go back to see California Adventure when it's 'done' - lots of things planned which they say should be finished in 2012 - should be amazing. We did get good value on our tickets, it's true - went to parks approx 9 days but also got food discounts (10%), money off walking tour in addition to discounted room rate.

We DO love WDW and missed it this year - we would have to go back in summer though and the thought of rain rain rain puts me off a bit (which is what we had on our last 2 visits). But then there is DDP - nothing remotely like it in California. Fancy trying Old Key West after beginning of August so we can have free full Dining Plan (those flight prices making my eyes water a bit though!).

Ah, yeah I think so. But I'd hold off on booking anything until October just to be sure. ;)
My parents had to leave me behind on a trip they'd pre-booked for us to New York because I had coursework that was due in that week. It was a shame and I've been kicking myself for it ever since. Especially since I changed course a month or so later because I found I just wasn't enjoying it. :guilty:

I would say WDW - it sounds like you really want to return there, and I am sure you will enjoy seeing WWOHP! :)
