I've recently started weight watchers and am doing pretty good for once so I don't want to blow it on my next trip...Any suggestions for places to eat?

:thanks:

It is going to be tough! For the CS places I would stick to those places that serve a salad. You can also check out the menu board to see what various places are serving! I am not a WW member so I can't help you out with the points for different selections, though I would venture to say that someone probably does have that information with the popularity of Weight Watchers!

Last time we went, there were lots more healthy options than there were in years past. So you can choose fresh fruit instead of fries, and lots of places have excellent salads, too. I don't know if any of the restaurants list points (like Applebees does), but you can also split a table service (or counter service, too) meal with someone else. DH and I did this a few times and every time we ordered and said we were splitting it, the CM's actually split the meal and gave us it on two plates, which was very nice.

I only allow myself ice cream while I'm on vacation, so splitting meals with DH allows me to order a milkshake or have a Mickey ice cream bar. (Yum!) I think you should also allow yourself to enjoy those treats that you really like while mostly sticking to your weight watchers plan. But I think that you will find a lot of items on the menus that will help you eat right. Hopefully, some others will jump on here with more ideas. Have a magical trip! :goodvibes

Keep up the good work!!! I would have more ideas for you if I hadn't had to cancel my Feb trip and therefore didn't get to check out the meals, etc... or share any tried and true ideas. But I am already thinking about next February!

WW has been a great plan for me. It took a year but I lost 50 pounds! And I really did small changes that added up. I never use an elevator anymore (whew ... when I first started that I had to ride one floor and walk 3 cause I couldn't make it!) and DH and I walk about 5 nights a week. I finally learned portion control and will power along the way. I am now a "lifer" and been doing good at maintaining.

Anyway, look at the menus beforehand. That is the best way to figure out what you might have and plan a strategy. Do not try to deny yourself too much-you will be walking alot.

We decided this time to not use the dining plan. That way I will not be tempted by desserts at each meal. Not that I won't indulge a little but every meal is too many desserts! Even if you are using the dining plan, maybe you can choose a dessert that can be eaten later (like a brownie). Since we aren't going to use the food plan, TS lunches are less cost and less food and we are making that our main meal for the day and split a CS at night adding some fruit to it - most CS have fruit or applesauce or apple slices.

I do plan to have a burger and a milkshake .. I do plan to have a couple drinks along the way ... and split a schoolbread with DH (never had it before - I've GOT to try it!!!).

I thought I would add a link to this older WW thread. It is still alive somewhere ... I should bump it up again. It had some good ideas in it. There are lots of DIS WW Peeps out there. Or should I say in here!!! :thumbsup2

I don't do WW but I have been eating better for about 5 months now( almost 60 pounds gone :woohoo: . We went to WDW in march not long after I got serious and I was fine. I actually lost a pound while there ( bless all that darn walking) . I ate salads, fruit, fish... and had plenty of choices. Sometimes i split a meal with my daughter which did allow me to cheat and still be ok. I split treats with DD and drank alot of water. My big splurge was those spicy cheese pretzels at MK... oh my.. I ate 3 of them.. just love them. I also ate a few kids meals. They were more than enough to satisfy me.
Basically I never went hungry.. had plenty of choices and did great. Its alot better now than it was a few years ago. We went right after my DD was diagnosed with diabetes and everything seemed like it was fried or starchy but I think its better now.

I have done WW and it definately works, but you are on vacation. There are definately healthy choices, but when I am on vacation my diet stops. Just look at it this way. You will be probably walking off every piece of food you put into your mouth each and everyday.

i am on WW too and have been doing really well and honestly i am scared about the eating at disney-- but i keep telling myself-- that for one week it will be my rewward for my hard work as long as i don't over indulge, and have to promise myself that the day i get back from disney the points counting starts again:) I have some ideas of what i am going to do-- i am going to take my own fiber one bars for breakfast, and i am going to let my husband us my counter service meals for breakfast , and we will share a lunch-- i am more of a eating a few small meals a day person recently than eating big meals. For dinner-- i am going to try to make healthy choices, but if i want the steak i am going to get the steak lol i just might not eat eveything-- but no fear it won't go to waste the husband will finish it:) :rotfl: instead of getting a " mickey on a stick" ice cream everynight, i might get a dole whip, or a fudge bar, or ice cream sandwhich, and not every night, and i am also taking 100 calorie pack snacks with me if i have a snack attack in the evening at least i know i am only eating the one little pack. It's very hard which on vacation to count -- but also like a previoulsy poster said-- you will be walking it off-- and that will allow your activity points to kick in-- good luk with anything-- if you need any other suggestions, or even to share fun WW ideas you can message me or PM me:) its nice to see other people out there who are doig weight watchers too and that it does work:)

I am also a WW "lifer" and went to WDW in January. There are so many good options available, it's not that hard. The hard part is not stealing the desserts the rest of my group got. :rotfl:

Just be careful with the salads....most CS locations already have the dressing on the salad and its a TON. If you aren't sure, ask first, so you can make another choice.

There are tons of fish and chicken TS entrees to choose from, and I did also indulge with red meat a time or too.

Don't freak out about the points and let it ruin your vacation. As others said, you are doing a lot of walking, and if you really want to add those exercise points, most hotels have a gym as well, or get up early and do some walking around the resort.

You are already planning to bring your snacks, so you are planning ahead. You will be fine...enjoy yourself and have fun!!! :cool1:

I recently lost 118 pounds on the Jenny Craig program. I went to Disney twice while on the plan and it did not set me off track at all. This is really without worrying myself about what I was eating.

The best advice I can give you is not to think about it. You are on vacation at one of the most happiest places on Earth. Enjoy yourself. Remember to drink a ton of water. If you see something you'd like to eat, get it and enjoy it. When you return home, you can go from there. But, with the amount of of walking you'll be doing, I highly doubt it is going to not be worth it. :)

I am on WW and this was my plan of attack for our May trip:

--Healthy breakfast (I brought my own high-fiber cereal from home and bought skim milk and fruit at the resort)

--Moderate indulge for our daily TS meal -- for example, at LC we each got soup and then split the filet and split dessert

--Tried to stay on track for the daily CS meal --either split with DH or got my own entree but tried to get the most point-friendly item available

--Do a little extra exercise in addition to all the walking in the parks (I got up early and did about a mile walk most mornings)

Our first week back I used my no weigh-in pass and then the next week I was down 1.4.

Just be careful with the salads....most CS locations already have the dressing on the salad and its a TON. If you aren't sure, ask first, so you can make another choice.

This is an excellent point! I asked DH to get me a chicken ceaser salad with dressing on the side at AK. They are pre-mixed with the dressing and said they couldn't do it on the side. There was soooo much dressing on there I probably would've done better with a sandwich or even pizza!

Great Advice Everyone! :thanks:

I've lost almost 10lbs and am trying to take it seriously this time! I'm doing the slow and steady thing. (I hear that wins the race!) :rotfl:

I wouldn't have even thought about splitting the meals.

I also hear that you can bring your own water and snacks into the parks now so I'll definitely be doing that. Can't wait to try that Dole Whip thinie though! Sounds Yummy!

:disrocks:

Are you doing points or core? You may want to do core for the week you're there - you can have eggs (not cooked in butter), veggies, fruits, lean meats (including red meats), skim milk without counting and without measuring serving sizes. And then you get 35 weekly points, and exercise points for all the walking you'll do! I think that may be a bit easier on core.

I just came back on Tues. night from an 8 day trip and I had lost 40 pounds on WW before our trip and still have quite a bit to go. I decided that I was just going to eat what I wanted (without being excessive) and enjoy myself as I was "on vacation". I had dessert with every dinner(was on the dining plan)and had a lot of steak which I love and don't get to eat too often anymore. I weighed myself when I got home and had gained 5 pounds. We have been home for 4 days now and I have already lost 4 of them and I am not starving myself, I am just back to sticking within my points. I guess my point is, you will probably not gain as much as you think as you are so active at Disney(and depending when you go, sweating!). Plus, I think it gives your metabolism a boost, so once you go back on WW, it comes off quickly. This was our first trip since I have been on WW and I am so glad I allowed myself to indulge as I didn't feel like I was missing out so it made it that much easier to go back to it when I got back! Good luck and honestly, enjoy yourself, if you were going to Disney all the time, that's one thing but you need to indulge every once in a while so you don't feel like it's a "diet". Good luck and let us know how it works out!

I've been doing WW since November, 2007, and I've lost 48 pounds. I was at Disney in May, and I was really freaked out about it, but it was fine. I missed a weigh-in while I was at Disney, but when I got back (2 weeks since my last weigh-in), I had lost 1.8. Here's some of what I did:

-I decided that maintaining was fine for me on vacation. You get 4 extra points a day.
-I considered doing core, but decided to stay on flex. but I did feel strongly that I wasn't going to count points while on vacation. So, I focused on not eating too many carbs, and usually choose chicken, seafood, and ate a lot of veggies.
-Whether on vacation or not, my rule is "DON'T GET HUNGRY." That's when I binge. Snack often and snack healthy.
-I didn't refrain from dessert, but I took small portions from buffets, and shared elsewhere.
-Do not underestimate the amount of walking you do at Disney. You can easily do 4+ hours of "leisurely walking" a day. That's a ton of extra points. Plus, you will probably swim, run for a fast pass, etc. Not only does it allow you to eat more, it means you NEED to eat more to have the energy for all of that extra activity.
-Just relax, this week isn't going to make or break your new healthy lifestyle. I won't speak for you, but I know that I didn't get to be 80 pounds overweight because I overate on vacation. My problem is a daily addiction, so dealing with it day in and day out is far more important than the few days you're at Disney.
-My WW leader says that she usually gains 3 pounds on vacation. This was amazing to me, because I realized that that can be ok. Enjoy! Food is art at Disney. It's part of the fun. It's an experience.

The fact that you're thinking about it ahead of time means that you're serious about losing weight and making a plan is your first line of defense. You'll do great.

***Edit: Also, remember that you'll be consuming a lot more salt than normal, so expect your weight to be up a few pounds when you first return, but for this to melt off as you get back to your normal diet. I think I was up 2-3 pounds when we got home Sunday, but by my weigh in on Thursday, I was 1.8 pounds less than when we left for vacation.

I guess I didn't think about all the walking we'd do!

I was just remembering ALL the YUMMY food!

Thanks for all the support and tips. I think I'll definitely have to post something when I get back!

:cheer2:

At the Main Street Bakery in MK, you should be able to get one of those single portion cups of Kashi Go Lean. It just about made my week to see that. I can survive for a couple of hours on that, a piece of fruit, and skim milk.

At Boma, I really wanted to try the desserts. So I went and got a plate full, cut up all the tiny servings into halves or so, shared with my kids so I had a taste of each one and what wasn't eaten, I squashed with another plate. I knew if I left it there, I'd pick, pick, pick at it until it was completely gone. You probably can't do this if you're joining people for dinner but with the family, it's definitely a way of saying "No more."

Be mindful of some of the wrap sandwiches. I don't remember which one but it was basically salad in a wrap but the salad drenched in dressing! Next I'll be trying to remember to ask about the dressing.

And, I've come home weighing more than I left. :(

All the walking is great. I always try to volunteer to be the one to walk back to the food court for drink refills, or bring back the pizza box.

I started WW in January. And I had a vacation planned in March to WDW. I decided to not worry about WW while I was gone.

Although I was taking a break from WW, some of it was still imbedded in me. I found myself at the food court eating yogurt for breakfast every morning. Sometimes my desserts would be a fruit cup instead of cheesecake.

And sometimes my dessert would be a big fat piece of cheesecake!!

I think I gained a pound while I was on vacation. Who cares?! I started right back up when I got home. I am now 35 pounds lighter! That one week didn't ruin it for me!

ENJOY YOURSELF!!! :cheer2: :dance3: :cool1:
