Did anyone else see the news on Yahoo! this morning about the monorail at WDW crashing at 2am? My heart goes out to the young man that was killed in the accident.

There is an extensive thread over on the rumor and news board.

Please keep the family of the cast member in your prayers.

I just now saw this news on a friends blog. I feel so bad for the friends and family of the CM. Glad that the passengers are all safe.

So have they completely stopped the running of ALL Monorail services at this time?

All monorail service has stopped for now.

The CM was only 21 years old, very sad.

So terrible. :sad1: My heart goes out to the CM's family.

The poor kid was a College Program student, and due to graduate from college next year :(

Still no news of how it happend? We were thinking maybe a health issue? How sad for everyone involved. :sad1:

There has been a lot of speculation. There are enough discrepancies online that I won't comment on it much.

It doesn't appear that there were any health issues, however.

Thanks Rob. It seems here lately, there have been several train and now a monorail accidents. My sister's high school sweetheart, was killed last year, in Sacramento. I believe that one is still under investigation, and for now, it's looking as though the conductor was texting. Very sad...

It was an interesting day here yesterday... It was quite obvious the "the show must go on" however, if you looked a little closer you saw the conversations happening between cast members and the definite sadness under that plastered smile. It wasnt the typical, I hate my job today but have to smile through it smile...

I over heard someone say, "its not like they all know each other" which kind of bugged me because even I am sad by this tragedy.

I am keeping the young man's family, friends, and co-workers in my thoughts...

From what I understand the monorails have an anti collision breaking system that automatical stops the trains if they get to close to each other. However when moving the cars to different tracks and "away" for the night the drivers override this feature - and given the time that this tragedy happened I beleive that is how it occured.

But no matter the cause/reason my heart and prayers goes out to the young mans family and friends:hug:

In some odd kind of way, we do all "know" each other. We are one large, extended family. We sacrifice holidays and weekends to make sure the show goes on. We do what we do because we love it. The cast member in question had for his main Facebook photo a picture of him on the Monorail, under occupation he had "Pilot on the Highway in the Sky". He was someone who did what he did because he loved his job!

So yes, we do all grieve when something like this happens. The show does go on, but things "backstage" are very often sad. I cant even imagine what it must be like to be a Monorail Cast Member the past few days.....

I've got a friend who was a monorail pilot at age 21. He hasn't been in trasportation for five years and still has many friends in that division. He didn't know the young man in question, but he was very upset yesterday. For those who have done it, being a "Monorail Pilot" is like a fraternity. It's much the same with "Jungle Cruise Skippers" from what I've seen. Once you're one of them, it's a big deal. Losing one like this affects them all.

Not to mention that with shared break rooms, etc. Transporation cast members get to know a lot of people in a lot of areas.

Six degrees of separation becomes even less in situations like this.

And all of us, no matter where we are, can mourn the loss of a life that was just beginning. It's a sad thing, regardless of whether we knew him or not.

What a jerk. Some people's universe is so small that it has to take something happening to themselves to realize the outside world.

so sad -- I read that he was going to graduate from college next year. I can only imagine how devastated his family must be.
