I have read several threads about the WDW Marathon. Most have said that crowds at the parks will be fairly low, but traffic will be a nightmare.

Both the 1/7 half marathon and 1/8 full marathon start at 6am at Epcot. We will be driving into the parks both days. Has any one driven to the parks during marathon weekend? Is it as impossible as people say? We don't have hoppers, and were planning to visit Epcot one of those days--all day, from open to close. Will we need to leave our hotel incredibly early to make it to Epcot for opening? :confused3

I would certainly leave extra time to get to Epcot or the MK on those two days. Traffic will be quite heavy. If there is any way you could take the monorail I would definitely recommend that.

Good luck,
Bob

The traffic situation is not good during the marathon. It's not that there is actually that many people driving, its that the marathon route goes on some of the roads and slows things way down. The only time we were there at that time we went by car from the Boardwalk to the Wilderness Lodge (changing resorts) and it took well over an hour. As Bob said, if the monorail is an option at all, I'd take it.
