Don't know where else other than DVC planning to ask this so...

Trying to get some info on WDW kennels. I know all the guidelines. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them, either good or bad. Thanks a lot.

Our dog spent 2 days in the kennel about 4 years ago. It is sort of a pain to have to return to walk your dog (especially if you have hopped parks!) She stayed at MK. It was clean and the dogs seemed well cared for. She also received a very cute VIP (Very Important Pooch) certificate on check-out.

We use the kennels once per month and they are great in our opinion.

Granted sometimes it can be an inconvenience to go check on them, but hey, at least you get to bring your dog with you and that's the least you can do. If you plan your day in advance you'll know which kennel to put your dog in.

Do not be concerned about closing times, because as long as you have your pink receipt the security guard will let you in to get your dog.

For example: We walk our dog at the kennells about 3 times per day. So let's say we are going to the Magic kingdom but in four hours we'll be at epcot. We'll take him and drop him off at Epcot and go to MK.

Again, it can be a pain but, make it a relaxation time and just enjoy having your dog there.

The kennels are VERY clean and the employees are VERY caring. I've met every employee at the MK kennells multiple times and they all love animals very very much, and in many cases bring their dogs to the kennell so they can have them at work with them. Actually many employees not even working at the kennel bring their dogs in slow times.

It is really a great setup, and that's coming from someone who is obsessed with his Jack Russell and reserves a dog friendly hotel so we can pick him up from the kennell every night and take him to the hotel with us since he has to sleep between us at night, under the covers of course.

If you have any other questions, ask away, Im a kennell pro.

I have thought about this a lot for our upcoming trip next year, and I have decided against the kennels. Although, I am sure that the Disney kennels are the nicest ones around and I will miss my baby, she will be better off left with my in-laws. I would feel BAD if I went to walk her 2-3 times a day and then had to leave her in a cage while we went and had fun. She gets so excited when she sees us and really depressed when she knows we are leaving her by herself.

I agree, except our dog has slept in the bed with us every night for the last 2 years that we've had him. He's just over 2 years old so, it's part of his life to be in bed with us.

However I'd still leave him with in-laws except the inlaws have a thing with feeding our dog everything he shouldn't eat, and then he ends up sick for a few days, so never again.

We have used Disney kennels many times in the past..as a last resort.

The kennels are very small..for large dogs. The staff, for example at epcot kennels are same as parking lot staff, so not kennel specific and not pet trained people.

You would be much better off finding a great place near your own home.

Did a search and couldn't find what are we required to bring if we wanted to use the kennel for our dog. I imagine you need sometype of proof of current immunizations, anything else.

Can someone explain the process etc.

I also would like to know more about the proof required. I got my dog's shots by a vet at a promotion on a saturday outside of a grade school. We have the tag but I have no idea where the paperwork is right now. I'm hoping to visit WDW - AK in a couple of weeks, have to take the dog with us.

Well I can't remember all that is required but you may want to call the kennel to find out. However, I know they must have bordella shots (something like that).

Typically they require most all of the immunizations that are offered.

The kennels at Disney are awesome. I enjoy and am very comfortable taking my cocker spaniel with us from time to time.

You have to have proof of shots being up-to-date or the CM's will call your vet and confirm if they are or not.

I always take the last paid receipt from my vet from when I last had my "shelby" at the vets. It shows her birth and what shots she has been given from the date of her birth. Works out well.

One of the kennels (I think, Epcot, not quite sure) will walk your pet for additional money, as many times as you want during the day. I am pretty sure it is first come first serve each day, as they only do a certain number each day.

Sure someone will pop in and correct anything I am not sure of

I have to say I disagree with you on this one.

I normally sit and talk to the staff there while we take our dog out and, while they are parking attendants, those that work in the kennels, typically "requested" the kennel job. They are extreme animal lovers, not just "parking attendants". Some even bring their dogs to the kennels with them. If you have a HUGE Huge dog it may be a BIT small, though i dont really think so, but if your dog is not huge they have kennels PLENTY big for them.

while there may always be an exception............I've found the staff to go above and beyond the call of duty.

The first time our dog stayed there, was the first time he'd ever been in a kennel, and we went to pick him up.........and saw that he was behind the counter, roaming freely, with his bed there as well, right beside the man at the desk. I was like, what the ......? The guy said he got nervous, so they took him out and loved on him and just let him stay behind the desk.

He's been fine there ever since............and we've noticed them doing that with other dogs when we've been there too.

Last time there, a HUGE black lab was nervous and so they had him behind the counter and he was just being loved on by everyone.

Trust me, your animal is in GOOD shape there.

HOWEVER, I say this as someone who takes my dog with me every night to the hotel (we get pet friendly hotels). We do not keep him there overnight and (just our opinion) we dont feel they get ENOUGH attention to stay there overnight with nobody there.

So while I think it's great, Im taking my dog with me every night. If you can't do that, I agree, it's best to keep them at home.
