We just had to cancel our Alaskan Cruise for July due to to knowing if the cruise will even take place with the border still closed and the cruise industry still not active. We are instead looking at going to Disney World during this week (July 6-13). Our daughter will be 8 year old, and this may be the last time we get to take her before she hits double digits. We have never gone in the Summer due to the heavy crowds. I know things can change, but what levels are we looking at for July, the week following July 4th? Any suggestions or advise?

This year it is impossible to know. There will be social distancing, masks, reduced hours, reduced staff, and the lure of the 50th celebration (presumably kicking off October 1) that will probably lure a lot of people to wait until October-December, if not 2022.

Summers of 2018 and 2019 were lighter then previous years as crowds started spreading out throughout the calendar, attracted by festivals, parties, pricing incentives, less oppressive weather etc.

I think this year, it’s anyone’s guess. We went in July 2019 (the week after you’ll be there) and had a great time. We managed the heat and humidity by doing a lot in the early mornings and late evenings, and taking a resort break/nap in the afternoon during the hottest/rainiest part of the day. I see you’re from LA, so you’ll be better off than we are in that weather since you’re more used to it. (We’re from CA and have heat, but not humidity.) The crowds weren’t horrific to us, but I guess it depends what you’re used to. I’m a teacher, so we always travel during school breaks. Relative to my options, crowds in the summer are the best. I can’t speak to lines right now, though. We went when FP+ was still a thing.

I’ve read from others who have gone over the 4th that it actually doesn’t impact the crowds as much as you’d think, other than MK ON the 3rd and 4th due to the special fireworks, and those aren’t likely to happen this year.

Absolutely no way to know. We have no idea what capacity will be.

The tour groups might not be there, which would make things different.

I was there 7/4-7/9 in 2019 and thought it was great as far as the crowd level goes.

I would expect it to be very hot.
I doubt there will be any foreign tour groups, so the crowds should be less.
No idea what crowd capacity will be a that time.
As noted, many are waiting till the fall for the 50th celebration.

As PPs have stated, this summer will be anyone's guess. We have a trip planned for the middle of July, but are still debating if we will go or postpone till summer of '22.

As for traveling in July - the majority of our trips have been in July (after the 4th). I agree that the summers of '18 & '19 did not "feel" as crowded as previous summers. I will say the heat & humidity, at times, can be like standing on the face of the sun. So we adjust accordingly - arrive early, mid day breaks, back for dinner & stay till closing. Drink more water than ever thought humanly possible. Be prepared (with ponchos) for the almost daily afternoon storm.
