We are looking into planning a 10 day trip to Disney from July 3-13. We have been to the world several times, but never in the dead of summer. Are we crazy? Is it so hot it is unbearable? Are crowds insane? Suggestions, thoughts, advice are always welcomed!

We're planning a trip for 6/28-7/6/08. We've gone back and forth between Spring Break and the 4th of July, but my husband actually wants to go on the 4th:scared1:. I think he has lost his mind:laughing:. Last year we went the first week of June, and the heat was bearable. I've been there many times in late June and July, and the last time I vowed NEVER to do it again (never say never, right?). As many people say on these boards, and my advice as well, just hit the parks early and late, and take breaks in between. Read your children and go at their pace, and of course keep everyone hydrated. It is hot, hot, hot, but it can be managed.

In 2007, we went for our first summer trip...spent 3 days at the Dolphin, then 7 at BCV (July 26 - Aug. 4) It was not nearly as bad as we anticipated...in fact the temps. were exactly the same as here at home.

We figured, "Would we rather be hot at home, or hot at WDW?"
We'll take WDW anyday!!

It was more crowded than our annual May trips...but we just went to the parks in the early mornings, & we did fine. We love hanging out at our resort...so that's what we did every afternoon.

We have always gone in August or September, yes it is hot but we always say who cares we are in Disney!!!!!

Infact we are going again in August this year

We always go in July. We go right after the 4th and stay seven days. Yes it's hot but we get to the parks 45 minutes before opening and get our fast passes, then hit the big stuff. We leave around 1:30 and head back to the room. The kids swim. DH takes a nap and we go back around 5:30, have dinner and stay til close.

Avoid extra magic hours and the parks that have them. These will always be the most packed parks for the day. Example... if the MK is open late on Sunday night, be there Monday a.m....early. If there is extra magic hour at epcot a.m. and MK p.m on one day, go to MGM or AK. Stay onsite, it's easiest. We stay at AKL because it's value priced in the summer. The values might have a large number of tour groups in July.

Do other stuff, sea racers or segway tour. My DD did the pirate cruise from the Grand Floridian one morning while DH and DS did sea racers. I vegged in the GF lobby. Definately park hoppers. Plan Plan Plan. The unofficial guide was what we liked best. Good luck and remember it's going to be hot...but it will be hot at home, too. Everytime we've went, it was hotter back in NY. Good luck!

I love going during that time! We have done it a few years now and we have 3 bdays in our family during the first week in July so it makes for a great celebration. :goodvibes

Last year we went from July 1 to the 11 and it was great.....the year before we did July 3 - 13 and loved it. I've been in August and to me July was much more bearable than August humidity. We usually sleep in, swim, and then later in the afternoon get ready to go to the parks and stay 'til closing. We are not early risers anyway so this plan works great for us.

Last July there were evenings where I would have even worn a light sweater if I had one. It was beautiful. The days are HOT, but they weren't awful. It often rains in the late afternoons so that is when we leave the pool & get ourselves ready for park time and when the rain passes we head out.

We wear hats in the pool and either stay in the water or shade. Drink lots of fluids. Walk thru shops as much as you can while in the parks. I didn't think the crowds were horrid either, although we have been at Xmas, Thanksgiving, spring break.....I have also been during slower times which spoiled me - but compared to the holiday seasons I didn't think July 4 was too bad to handle. If you can close the parks the crowds leave after the fireworks/parades etc.

It is a different trip - definitely not a park marathoner, but we take it slower and it is more restful & relaxing than some of our WDW trips at other times of the year. Just make sure you make ADRs so you have a place to rest/cool off if you need it. #We do not go to AK. It is just TOO HOT AND HUMID. Both DH and I thought we were going to faint while at AK during our first summer trip. I actually felt panicky...neither of us spoke up about how awful we felt until later when we were back at the resort. AK is not our favorite park anyway, so we don't miss it. AK is torture in the summer heat.

Happy planning! We are booked for June 21 - June 29 this year to use up the last of our APs.

I've never gone anytime BUT summer. I'm a teacher, as is my husband, and we wouldn't pull our kids out of school even if we could get time during the school year.

Yep, it's hot. But it's hot and sticky in NY in August as well-- life goes on. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen, and have a blast!!

Thank you to everyone for the advice, info, and suggestions. I feel so much better about going ahead and making plans to visit the world in July. Now if only I can convince my parents to join us - lol!

I spent my disneymoon in July, and I do have to say that it is hot...we are from Miami, and we feel that Orlando is even hotter than Miami. But don't let that stop you from making your trip. Disney is Disney every month of the year, and the magic to me is the same all year round. Just be prepared to hydrate, hydrate and hydrate!!!=) And you might want to take a break in the afternoons to go to the pool and recharge.
Good luck with your trip!!

We will be going again this year 6/27~7/7,this time with extended family. I love being there during the 4th! You'll have a great time! Is it hot?? Wicked hot! But its hot at home too,so who cares!

How hot is hot? We are from Oklahoma and planing a 7-8 day trip in the middle of july. During that time period here, it's usually 95-100F so we're pretty used to the heat.

If you're crazy, we're crazy! Going to be at the Poly from July 11-18. And I'm planning a lot of afternoon breaks in the volcano pool. :woohoo:
