WDW in January? What's the weather like?

Just wondering if you could tell me what the weather at WDW is like in January?

One word: Miserable.

We went last January and vowed to never go again. It was freezing. We usually go in September and thought we'd give Jan. a shot. Never again!

It really depends on what your idea of freezing is. There were a few days this past January with record lows (40's to 50's during the day). Other than that however, it averages in the high 60's to low 70's. The last few days of our trip were in the low 80's! It's wonderful weather IMO. Never rained a day we were there (9 days) and I was almost always comfortable temp wise.

Plus, crowds are quite low!!!!

Iffy weather. Can be great - 70s but can be rather cool in the 50s.But if you live where it is truly winter weather, 50's don't sound bad do they?

Our weather in January can be all over the place from the 80's to the 40's. It's been a cold winter for us down here...coldest in my five years as a Florida resident.

We have been very cold at WDW when we went in December and in January - it really is hit or miss, half of our trip was warm and the other half was very cold. No matter, it was amazing....

We've taken a couple of January trips these past 2 years and that's enough for us. Granted the crowds are low but we're from northeast Ohio and go to Florida to escape the cold. During our 2 stays, the weather can fluctuate between 40 to 80 degrees and the pools, to us, are not heated enough to get us to swim. Part of the pleasure of WDW is the resort pools and paying deluxe and not being able to use the pools is a waste. Sorry to say,, WDW will never see us again in January, we'll go back to October, September where the weather is more to the like of what we want from a Florida vacation, hot sun and sun burn.

Some of my friends had a trip last January. Yes, it's cold but they don't mind it. They just enjoy and have a great time to make it as wonderful as possible.

We've gone the past 2 Jan. and the weather was as they say "unseasonally cold". We were in many layers, scarfs, gloves,etc...especially in the PM. The downside was that using the pool was brutal; however, the upside was that the crowds/waits were very light. It is worth it to us to risk being cold for a few days in exchange for 10-20 min. waits in the parks!

we love going in jan. we are not big pool people, so we don't mind chilly pools. we also dont like the heat all that much, so although it was chilly in the early mornings and we needed sweat shirts, by mid morning or lunchtime, we were usually very comfortable. we think the daytimes are usually perfect temps for us and less crowds. as long as you come prepared and have an extra layer to add incase you need it. we had to purchase them in epcot this jan when we were caught off-guard, that was alittle costly, but we did get nice jackets that we wouldnt normally splurge for. plus, we got a great deal on airfare since the holidays were over.

We were just there in January this year(1/25-2/1) and we were more hit than miss. From Sunday through Thursday it was sunny and a couple of the days the temps hit the 80's and the others were in the 70's. It did rain on Friday and dip to the upper 50's low 60's on that Friday and Saturday. We were able to hit the pool a few days and being from N.E. Ohio and missing our worst snowstorm in 32 years we were happy to be there.

We've made January the official family vacation month
It's our favorite time to go, for many reasons.
First of all the weather is good. We prepare for it to be cold, but it's January and that means cold. We take our coats and generally wear them only in the evenings. Long sleeved shirts are fine for us while the sun is out. If we do take our coats during the day and it gets too warm, we get a locker and then get them out when we need them. We've never had a full day of rain while vacationing in January...a light rain in the evenings maybe, but we've never been rained out We also would never go to FL during hurricane season, June 1- Nov 1.
The crowds are low. We just went the week of MLK day (that's when we always go) and we don't think it's crowded at all. Everything is pretty much a 30min wait or less, except for Soarin, which is always crowded. We don't really use FP's at all. We have done the water parks in January, but we won't do them again. For us, it was too cold for that, so this year we went on a trail ride
Some of the attractions are closed for maintenance during this time, but we don't really care about that b/c we go every year, so we'll do those rides next time.
We've been to WDW in Jan, March, April, August, Nov and Dec. We refuse to go during the summer, the crowds and heat are horrid. In Jan we go on ALL the attractions (sometimes 3-4 in a row) unless they are closed for refurbs, in summer all you do is wait.
Plus when we make our adr's, we always get the restaurants and times we want, we've never been told there was nothing available when making adr's for January

We're from NE Ohio and we there just about the same time as you. We were there 1/23-2/1. We took the train and watched the Ohio snows turn into DC bare trees to sunny Palm trees. Got off the train and it was alittle chilly to cold but our week we were blessed with some 80 degree weather but the pools were too cold even for us. SIL that was watching the house called and said we got dumped on, snow that is in Ohio, laughed my ... off, she was invited to come along with us but declined. When we left Florida the temps dropped alot lower than before we came and when returning to Ohio, wondered about our car that we left at the train station, figured I should have put a shovel in the trunk to shovel the car out. We got there, not too bad, scraped a foot of snow off and a good layer of ice and at 3 am, dressed in Florida duds must have looked pretty funny. Sure miss those sunny Florida days.

we've been a lot of different times of the year and mid jan. is our favorite! low crowds and we love the weather. you get to wear your disney fleeces and sweatshirts.

We have been twice in January and loved it. The cooler weather made the parks very enjoyable. We have also had weather in the 80's at that time. I participate in the marathon weekend so I prefer running in cooler weather. Anything warmer than the Canadian weather we have in January is plus for us.

We came from FREEZING Chicago to Orlando in mid to late January and it was cold ! The first four days it didn't get above 60. The one day we played golf the high was 54 degrees !! I won't be going to Florida again in January. I'd rather go when I can easily wear shorts, swim, and NOT freeze !!!!

We went the first or second week of January 7 times we always hit what I would call perfect weather 70's to low 80's during the day upper 50's to 70 at night. There were many times the week before or week after the temps never got above 60. I love Disney in January but being from New England even 60 in January is nice

we were there for just a quick two day trip -- had a couple of warm days at the beach first, then spent the two days after ML King Jr. Day at Disney.

Was absolutely freezing -- rope drop temps of 38F., and strong winds, so the windchills were in the teens - highs barely nudged 50 F. those 2 days. We're from Nebraska, so that was an awful lot like home! Luckily we had all the layers & warm gear because we had driven.

Would we do it again...YES! Florida, even with chilly temps, is GREEN & has BLOOMING FLOWERS in January. Not much chance of ice & snow in Florida -- but at home that's expected. Even cold Florida beats Nebraska hands down (and there's no WDW in Nebraska)

How does the marathon affect crowds?
Just realized that the weekend we would be going is the marathon weekend. We are looking at going Jan 4-9.

G'day Butterflykisses, we'll be in WDW in January in 2011. Obviously being our summer school holidays restricts us time wise when we can go from here.

I was interested in the responses too, and from what I've read, it'll be no different to a Sydney autumn/winter. Mid to high teens during the day with dabs of low 20s, and at night, be prepared to rug up. But above all, generally dry. Coming from hot and humid conditions of Dec, Jan and Feb, it will be a nice change for a few weeks. Enjoy your time when you go.
