WDW in Brazil?

That may be true but except for a couple of major cities along the coast the rest of the country is very poor and wouldn't be a target consumer anyway

Yet they can afford to fly to WDW

And the ones that can afford Disney are coming to the US. Why would Disney want to build a park down there? Can't see the country 'supporting' it, and who would want to go there as a tourist to see Disney? No one I know. Crime is rampant in some of those areas and no way I would visit there.

They're already getting the money from those that can afford it, so how could this be a money maker in any form for Disney. It would be fine by me, but can't ever see Disney going for it! :confused3

I agree. I believe that at the current moment it might not be completely worth it for the potential profit, however, given: Brazil's population; geographical size; and expanding economy, I would not be surprised if a resort sprung up here in the next twenty years or so.

Um, more than a resort is going to spring up and in far less tha twenty years. More like two. You may want to check in with the International Olympic Committee. Smart or not, the World is arriving on Rio's (Brazil) doorstep in two years for the summer Olympics.

Find investors like they found for the orient where Disney needs only invest a name and 10% and Disney Brazil it's a done deal. They do not need nor do they expect any of us to travel to Brazil. There are more than enough people in South America to keep Minnie and Mickey busy.

Disney advertising $$$$s are heading to South America these days. Disney doesn't make advertising mistakes.

Well all I have to say is if they do build one we should all go visit in large groups wearing matching shirts and waving flags, chanting USA and pretending not to understand the language as we plow through the lines. Now that would be epic:rotfl2:

Hubby is laughing!!!

I'm simply feeding fuel into the fire, I have no data or inside info. However, if I were a Disney executive, I'd wait to see how the World Cup and Olympics pan out. If both of those go off without any major issues, I'd seriously consider Brazil as the next country for a park.

GDP per capita is only about ¼ of the US, though. That would give me pause.

"The chances of Brazil pulling off the Olympics without issues are slim to none",that was directly quoted from a Brazilian co-worker.Here's the thing, they come here because things over there are disorganized, dangerous and expensive compared to what they can get here, just visit the outlets and see them buying $150 dollar shoes they end up selling there for $300.If Disney were to build a theme park in South America,I would imagine they would look more at Argentina and Chile,Brazil has an improving economy but it's still a bit like the old west in the sense of being organized and safe.

Brazil has a growing economy and the potential to be one of the world's major economies some day, give the country's size, population, resources, and dominant position in South America.

Not all is well in Brazil. According to the CIA World Factbook, Brazil's "highly unequal income distribution and crime remain pressing problems."

I would not be surprised if Brazil has a Disney park some day. But it could take a few more decades.

This almost describes China a few decades ago, now they are a major economic superpower with a growing middle class. I think Disney Shanghai will be Disney's international priority for the next decade but Brazil has huge potential economically and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a Disney park there in my lifetime.

There are nearly a million people living in tin shacks within walking distance of Olympic events. How will these people react when the WEALTH of the World arrives in Rio?

You are right. There are many reasons for worry.

Not so sure about IOC's decision making skills.

Sochi
Rio
South Korea-stones throw from the little man to the North who easily killed his Uncle and all close relatives of his Uncle.

Maybe I'll just wait till the summer games in Toyko to visit a Disney park outside the US!

Brazil's development is a gigantic red flag...

They only recently have developed a consumer credit market..and as with the US "drunken sailor" model that has flourished since the Gipp...
It's going off the rails.

The largest US banks have started to quietly back away from Brazil...just as the quietly swam into it not that long ago.

Few places can effectively support Disney ventures...I'm not sure they're even sold on China...that's a "leap of faith" on Disney's part. But china seems more about factory deals than sucking money out of customers like they do in Florida. I bet they view actual money there as gravy.

But its a mistake to look at "developing" countries in the 21st century in terms of the 20th. The conditions don't seem to be favorable for that kind of infrastructure/ development.

Not like the US and to a lesser extent Japan and Western Europe.

Conveniently...where are your "magic kingdoms"?

And most of us would love to see that! Brazilians are widely known as a warm, loud and extremely hospitable people. I can assure you most of us here would try our best to make you feel at home, and even be proud to acknowledge the similarities in behavior ( as you'd be pretending to be like one of us!). Though you'd probably not see any Brazilian tour groups wearing matching shirts and waving flags as the risk of getting lost is much smaller when you're in your own country, surrounded by your own culture and speaking your own language...
As for me, I'd surely love to have a Disney Park in my country, but I would never give up Disneyworld. Believe it or not, Disney is part of our childhood memories and dreams as much as it is for any American. Most people my age grew up wishing for the day they would see Cinderella's REAL castle and take a picture with the REAL Mickey Mouse.
I really don't mean to be rude, but guys, it hurts to see some people making negative generalizations about your country and people. I'm sure it would hurt you, too. Especially when you know that a lot of Brazilians are great admirers of American culture and citizens!

Thinly veiled racism/prejudice...

Boy, you never see that in the USA...;)
