We where scheduled to make our usual pilgrimage to the wdw resort. When I was given the gift of rupturing the bottom of my foot. Put into a 40# boot, and told to have a great vacation. This was going to be not usual trip. A very eye opening and learning experience for sure.

We flew out of O'hare and security issues alone, made me feel safe. I offered to remove the boot, but the wanded it, wiped it for chemicals?, and then finally decided I was ok to pass, allowed to go ahead. I had not planned on how long the halls where at o'hare and found myself exhausted and beat by time we finally got to board the plane. I was wondering, if I had made the wrong decision thinking I could do this?

United, no real problems. Quick safe flight. Seats seemed tightly arranged but nothing new. Luggage at mco, was wonderful. It was on the carosel before the people got there to retrieve it. Very fast.

National EA, was great. Many cars to select from. Hoped for a VW, but none available. We choose a Bright red impala, sun roof, leather, huge trunk, great pickup. Was Very happy with our choice. Easy in and out.

CR resort, We had a mk view tower room(thank you ap rate), and recieved a great room on the 9th floor. (Mk side over shops area). The cr we have been to many times, but not since the remodel. The rooms looked great. That bed was so comfortable. 5 pillows on each bed. They did the towel upgrade while we where there and it was very noticeable. Great new h20 products too. Yes, the counter space and drawer problem is noticable. I knew this going in, so we managed with 1 sink and used the other as a counter. The drawers, we just used the luggage open thing and hung up everything we could. I did not know, that they had gotten rid of the ceiling fans. This was dissappointing. I really liked that. The room was quiet for the most part. We could hear neighbors above a few times, but generally quiet. Housekeeping could be friendlier, or timelier? We would be gone for hours and return, not done, and 2 minutes in room, "do you want me to clean?" I started to think she watched for us? The computer was alot of fun, and very convient. Would like to see other resorts adopt that. The tower elevator is a big problem. Many guest do not know about the escalator? Cause there was always a tremendous line for the elevators. And for some reason there is very little air conditioning in them. :confused3 We definately love the CR and would stay there again.

Dining, We had time before and after free dining. Before the resturants where more relaxed, and enjoyable. After free dining started it was very noticeable. Speed eating and table turnaround, felt very rushed, in the same resturants the week before was totally different. This is understandable, due to the large amount of people in the resturants, but definatley a change.
Outstanding meals:
**Concourse steakhouse, we ate 2 dinners and 1 breakfast, was excellent. Nice cm's & great food. Wine sauce on the the new york strip was great.
**Chef's de france, wonderful cm, friendly & helpful. Tried the pork chop in mushroom sauce & macaroni was wonderful.
**Scifi, food was ok, but i love the idea of this place.
**Tony's town square, the food was way improved over last year. 1 great cm and 1 not so great. (she seemed busy, and rushed)
**O'hana's, we are not big meat eater's but, enjoyed it just the same. Met the pastry chef. Due to allergies he made something special for sis. Way above the usual, extra friendly.
**Colombia Harbour house, great food, clean, and cool. Plenty of places to sit.
**snack bar in the contempary resort. 24hr's!
**Room service at the contempary resort!
Not so great experiences:
**Garden view tea (gf), we usually love this and try to go a couple of times each trip. But, we got to the tea, and due to my leg pain, asked to be seated at one of the regular tables, not the tea tables you have to lean over, or the couch because of my leg pain.... . They refused! I was told in not certain terms, that a party of 2 under any circumstances was going to the couch & tea tables. I thought they where supposed to try to accommadate the disabled? Sis, said no thanks and we left. I was very upset, this was actually our very 1st adr of the trip, and had me worried, for what might lie ahead? > A week into our trip is visit #2 to the gf for lunch & I was still upset. Wound up speaking to a manager on the phone and he apologized & "no please give us another try, But did not want to, just hope they fix this so they handle the situation better in the future.
**Tony's town square, we had a dinner meal start to finish in 20 minutes of sitting down. The cm tried to take sis's plate while she was obviously still eating?
**Peco's bills & pinnochio's, for walking around with food, for upward of 10 minutes and no place to eat. Wound up on a bench at pinnochio's, in the hall. They need to decide: should you get food / or the table? This is a big debate. We follow sis's plan to have food 1st, but the rules are changing all the time.:confused3

The disabled view: Being newly disabled and hopefully only temporarily? We set about our touring. I though mk would be too crowded for a wheelchair or cart, so the plan was go to one land and stay there till finished with no hurrying. We where given the GAC card, and booklet's about touring for the disabled. Found out: in most cases the procedure is get a fast pass, show up at fast pass time and get in fp line. Whether your walking or cart / wheelchair. There are a very few exceptions to this plan. The problem lies in the fact you can't move around quickly or smartly to get fast passes. And if you wind up getting a long time out fp, you are waiting along wait. I tried to find lines I was capable of doing. Space mountain is a better line to wait for me. It is first air conditioned, and you have rails throughout the line. To rest on, or lean on, or just hold on to for balance. These where my criteria. Where as pirates, was very hard. If I leaned up against the wall, people started to skip over me and push in front of us. (due to the wide halls) also the line is very uphill and down hill. Which normally, I didn't notice but it affected my balance problem. So mk turned out to be alot of work. I was very tired and unable to keep up with sis. EPCOT: I tried the cart. Thinking this is a big park, with large walkways should be ok? Found that not always true. Future world: the land was hard to enter, those carts don't like uphill & the special line to go up for carts & wheelchairs, people cutting through giving me sour looks for being in there way. I always rode the cart to the pavillion or country and parked then walked around on the boot. Trying to stay somewhat moblie without tiring. This plan worked pretty well. I found myself very self conscious being in the cart. Somehow people don't look at you anymore just the cart. while walking, several strangers said to me "at least your not in one of those carts.. they are always in the way.... running over us.... . I would listen and then tell them it is parked outside, cause I cannot walk that far. Even people with double strollers I thought would be more considerate having to negotiate the walkways with strollers, I thought they might understand, but didn't find families any more tolerate than others. I know there is an abundance, of carts at wdw now, but I hope in the future, I will be more helpful and more personable to these people. Trust me, I cannot believe that someone would be paying $40.00 / day to ride around in that thing if they didn't need to. MGM: we did the park for 3 hours in a cart, and gave up. I could not get down to the tower at all. that street was impassable the day we went. AK: we where going to skip altogther, then went to on one of our last days. It was extremely hot, and crowded. No cart. Not interested in attempting that here. did dinosaur once and shopped then it started to rain > which does not work with the "boot" so left.

What we did do: Lots of pool time. MD said I could swim and not wear it for that.;) Shop, my fav. past time. Movies the amc pleasure island was great. Rested & hopefully healled.

Would I go in this situation again? It was a hard decision initally. But we go usually twice a year & have for many years. Since it wasn't my only trip there I would say yes. We got to see a different side of wdw, people, and seeking out other options for entertainment. It turned out to be a good place to heal & rest. And for the 1st time a relaxing vacation. Now I will need to incoporate these ideas into future trips.

Willing to help anyone, finding themselves in this situation. MKY:cutie:

OK i'm in thats sounds painful...

We flew home on from Washington D.C. last July and somehow my brother was put on a different flight than we were in the reservation process but we all had a layover in Ohara and my mom want to make sure my bro was fine and he was flying on United and we were flying on American and we were so far away from him my mom thought she had walked to miles. By the time she was back and by the way she had our boarding passes they were about to close the doors. We made it on right as the airplane was leaving but for that time me and my dad were worried we were going to miss the flight to i can understand that Ohara wouldnt be that great for someone with a boot.

If you have occasion to go again and need a cart, though sounds like you won't but if you do, rent one off site, they are smaller, easier to navigate, more comfortable, and easily transportable. you have them for everywhere you go don't have to hope they have one at the park and they are cheaper even delivered to your hotel and picked up than the ones in the park.

Disneydance, yikees! Ohare is a handful. And we where only in the united terminal. :confused3 They do offer the assistance cart / wheelchair thing but I really thought it would not be as bad as it turned out.:teacher:

Mickeythepooh, I really did look into outside companies, but didn't plan to use the cart, probably as much as i needed it. Your right thou, about availability. Several times I got the last one, or just a few left by noon. It is too bad wdw does not do a proactive rate on the cart. The most we had it was 3 hours, and it is a total $40.00 / day fee. Just found it way too hot, and tiring to stay longer than that.

Thanks for the help! mky:cutie:

Hi MKY:cutie: .....It`s Me.:goodvibes ..and I just finished your great Trip Report...thank you for sharing it with us !!
As I was reading it....I realized that....I was sooo happy you and Sis decided to make this trip.!...For what it`s worth...Im sure I heard in your writing...that your being in the "World" ....trying to heal.pixiedust: ..was much better than NOT being There !!!!! LOL
I know that it was challenging at times for you...and I am so happy that you....for the most part...Did Disney this trip....in a much more relaxing way !!! :cloud9:
You taught me a few things in that....I didn`t know about having to have a FP (being in a cart)...to even get to any type of priority line for an attraction (although I hope and pray I never have to think about that one )!!
That doesn`t sound like such a great way for the disabled to see Disney:sad2:
Hope that your next Doc`s Appt. finds you well on the way to recovery now !!!:flower3:
Glad your home safe and sound...and planning for the next trip !!!:cheer2:

:yay: Hey tomar!;) Yes, I was trying to infuse magic into my foot.:thumbsup2 :wizard: At least i am not depressed anymore.;)
