WDW for the Big 4-0 or Christmas?

So are you saying you are off a whole week, but that you have conferences on Thursday night the week before your break? Or do you mean you have conferences the Thursday of your break?
We actually have full school days on Monday and Tuesday and conferences on Wednesday and Thursday, so my fall break is really only a long weekend.

We went this last Christmas, mainly the week before and it was busy. Too busy for us. Christmas eve/day was nuts with crowds. The days before were OK other than the rain, which we thought we left in Seattle. I'd go earlier in December if you can as it just gets busier as you get closer. October is just too hot for us and we're moving to mid-November or early December for our trips. We loved the decorations and how the resorts were done up but the crowds were killer.
I really wish I could go earlier in December, but there is no way I can get time off that close to Christmas Break. Maybe when I retire, which is not happening for at least 30 years, I'll be able to take an early December trip. Until then, my life is dictated (for better or worse) by the school calendar.

I did a adults only WDW trip for my 40th last year and it was awesome! Would recommend!!!

I think with that short of time period, I would pick December. Even though I celebrated my 40th on my actual birthday and loved it, I have decided to not spend another birthday there just because it's too hot in the summer. I've decided to celebrate another time of the year, when it works best for me. In 2021, I'll be turning 50 just like Disney. Instead of going on my birthday, I'm planning on going in early May and in late October. I'll probably celebrate my birthday on both trips! So even though your birthday is in October, you can still celebrate in December!

I also teach and understand how everything revolves around the school schedule. I've been saying for years how I can't wait until I retire so I can go to Disney whenever I want. Well, it's here. I'm retiring at the end of this school year! Here in Kentucky, we can retire after 27 years. Sorry that you have another 30, but maybe it will go fast. I will say it was super fun to book early November for our first WDW trip after my retirement. I'm also booking the Smoky Mountains for the second week of August (our schools start the first week), just because I want to feel free during a time that I usually don't.
