WDW for couples: Best Trips

80 more days for me and the dh! Try not to talk about it too much in our house because our kids are dd11 and dd4, they are super jealous! Thanks for the post, I have so many people ask why disney!? What do you love about it so much to go without the kids!? We just do, I've been to tropical islands and cruises but they don't compare to the constant excitement and romance!

I understand when people ask why disney, I get a huge smile on my face and not sure what to tell them first. When I go to local amusement parks, I now compare them to disney, and how Disney does it so much better. Don't get me wrong, they are still fun but certain things do not compare.

My DH and I are both in our early 30s and have been going to Disney as a couple for 5 years now. We average 3-5 trips a year depending on the runDisney calendar, time off from work/school, and when our group of friends take the weekly trip. Our vacations are usually fairly laid back and we go at our own pace, but each trip, we (try to) do this:

Stay somewhere we haven't been together.
Drink around the world at Epcot.
Monorail/Boat pub crawl.
One meal somewhere we haven't been, ADR can be made.
One super fancy dress up dinner, ADR must be made.
Do a different activity each night.

Aside from these two meals, we do not make ADRs on solo vacation trips. Group trips and runcations, yes. It forces us to not be slaves to a schedule, but again, we go A LOT. You may want to eat certain places and ADRs are good for that.

When we go to the parks, we usually have our FPs and a short list of things we want to do. If we see a short line for a character, we'll hop in line and are sometimes the only adults without kids in line. We get in as many rides as we feel like doing, but if the line is long and we don't have a FP, we don't do it. If we go at the holidays, we tour the resorts and parks and get pics in front of every Xmas tree. If it's not a holiday or special event, we find as many PhotoPass people as we can and overdo it on photos. We also strike a specific pose per trip for most ride photos (ie, Christmas last year was the 'Home Alone' face).

We'll also try to find different locations to watch Wishes-- the beach at the Poly and the lounge at the top of BLT are two of our favorites (and convenient if we are doing a monorail pub crawl). One of my favorite Wishes experiences was having dinner in Cinderella's castle later on in the night and having the fireworks go off outside. You can't really see the fireworks from inside, but the windows light up, the stained glass looks awesome, and it was still pretty magical.

We also love going to AKL for the nighttime "safari" with night vision goggles (which might be just for people who stay there, not sure) and the campfire sing along. If you walk around AKL during the day, there are flamingo pools and lots of neat things to see. POR has carriage rides and Yehaa Bob-- a super fun piano sing along that is worth it if you don't mind being picked on or doing the YMCA in front of a bunch of random people. If you've got it in your budget, Victoria and Albert's is a fun fancy-pants dinner but isn't cheap and be prepared to be FULL after going. Kimonos at the S&D has karaoke and most of the singers (not me) can actually carry a tune. And if you're not afraid of heights, Characters in Flight is great... but I'm super scared of heights so I couldn't see the happiness in it. We were initially going to get married there, but I'm glad I re-thought that. I'm a wuss.

I could keep going and going, but it would be an even longer post.

DH and I are going in 42 days for a long weekend as the grand finale of our summer of celebrating our 20th Anniversary, which was April 7! We've never been without our kids, and I can't wait. We are staying at the Dolphin, I've made some great ADRs, and booked the After Hours event at La Cava. Planning to spend lots of time in lounges!

So I'm happy to say my trip in October will be one to definitely remember! I got engaged yesterday!! So now my DBF is now my DFi! And what would an engagement post be without some photos!

Congrats!!! Your trip will be so special! You could always see about doing a photo session with the Disney photographers as your engagement pictures, or even to supplement them. Doing them through disney let's you have them done inside the park. I'm pretty sure it's an hour or hour and a half session for $350? Not exactly sure but there are lots of threads and links about it!

I grew up doing Disney as a family, like at least 15 of us, normally more. I lucked out and had an awesomely fun family and grandparents who didn't get upset if the "kids" ran off.

DH & I have a great time going as a couple. I'm glad because my ex use to make Disney a chore (making me miss my family).

This will be his third trip and we're slowly working our through the restaurants at WDW. We're also staying Club Level at the AKL. Just over a 41 days left!

The last few times we stayed at POP in the 80s wing. It's further away from the food court, but a fair straight shot to the buses. I've stayed at all the moderates over the years and I'd recommend the French Quarter or Riverside. There's just something about them that I've always liked.

Tips
I always get ADRs, but now try to leave some time open for flexibility. When we go OOP, we do less ADRs and many times those are for lunches.

If you can go during the Food and Wine Festival, GO! It's an amazing way to try a bunch of different types of food. We normally don't do ADRs at least one of the Epcot days for it.

Eat/Drink your way around the World: I don't drink beer or wine, so drinking around the world is a harder thing for me outside of the Food and Wine Festival. Last trip we got candy at every country. It was a neat and sweet way to get little samples of different foods. Highly recommend the Chrunchies at the UK. They were by fair our fav!

We will be driving from MD and hopefully arriving around lunch time Saturday! I can't wait for this experience with him! I'll try to post picture during or after our stay! Have a magical night! Best wishes!

Totally jealous! (Our next trip is in 34 days. I wanna go now!!)

Have fun!

DH and I will be making our first solo trip in December. He received an award at work and it included an all expenses paid trip for 2 for 3 nights. People think we're nuts for picking Disney. We're quite excited to be going, but our 4 kids are wicked jealous.

We are going in February without the kids. My kids would be uber jealous that we are going so all they know is mommy and daddy are going on a trip and Grandma and Grandad are coming to spoil them lol

My kids range from 12 - 20. And while they're jealous, they're happy for us. Plus, they're happy they get 5 days without parental supervision. (Although they will have the neighbors keeping an eye on them) Hubby and I never had a honeymoon and the one time we tried to get away for a weekend when they were younger (and my mom came out to watch them) was a disaster! My oldest was 12 at the time and she wound up doing all the cooking because for some reason my mom didn't feel like it.

I added an extra day on to our trip. Hubby doesn't know (and hopefully doesn't find out) because it's my Christmas present to him.

I just came back a week ago from my first disney trip with my boyfriend. We had an AMAZING time. I never went with family, so I can't compare, but I loved having the freedom to just do whatever. I definitely want to go back once more just the two of us before we have kids.

We stayed at the Pop Century, which is more "kid friendly" with the big animation icons, but we loved it. I actually liked the big icons, it was like we never left the parks. I really felt immersed into the "disney experience" by staying at Pop. Next time we might do a moderate to try out the more romantic side of Disney :)

I have been twice with more than just the two of us and I loathe it. I'd rather get stuck on IASW for 3 days with no earplugs. I *love* it just being my wife and me. We have no schedule. We leave for the parks when we feel like it. We leave to back to the hotel when we feel like it. We eat if and when we feel like it. We ride what we want to and we don't ride anything if we don't want to. It's complete freedom.

This is exactly what my husband and I do. We will make ADRs for 2 big restaurants, one of his choosing and one of mine. The rest of the time we leave it up to chance.

We went with my family last year to celebrate my parent's anniversary and while we had a good time, I appreciate our couple trips much more!

Getting ADRs to good restaurants is one of my favorite things to do on a couples-only trip. For my upcoming trip with DBF to celebrate our 7th anniversary: Be Our Guest, Sci Fi, Hollywood Brown Derby, Tony's, Yak & Yeti, Liberty Tree Tavern, and drinks around the world in Epcot.

It's so much easier to plan a trip for 2. You can accommodate both people's priorities, and WDW has so many possibilities for romantic dates/dinners. BOG is my favorite for that, though.
