PLEASE HELP!! I live in Cape Town, South Africa and am in the process of organising a trip to WDW for my ENTIRE family, 15 of us altogether.. Kids, Parents and Grandparents alike!! What a job... :) We would like to buy a few grocery items for our stay (we are staying at CBR) but don't know whether we should buy them online and have them shipped to the hotel or should we make the effort to get a taxi and visit a local convenience store, for e.g. Publix? I have visited an online grocery store, and have made a note of a few common items, and was hoping whether someone would please tell me how they vary in price.. Is it MUCH more expensive to buy online?

The items I found online are:

* Coca-Cola 2 liter - $1.69
* Wonderkids White Sandwich Bread - $2.89 (they also had a Store Brand for only $1.79)
* Kellogg's Corn Flakes 18oz - $3.79
* Store brand 2% Reduced Fat Milk 1 gallon - $4.59 (this was really, really confusing, cause you guys seem to have HUNDREDS of different varieties of milk.. We don't have a selection like that over here, so if you could please just give me a general idea of how much milk costs, that would be great :) )

Then of course there's the $20 delivery charge...

I know this sounds like a silly request, but any help you'd be able to offer me would be greatly appreciated..

Bye now, from Sunny South Africa

I have never purchased groceries online, but the $20 delivery charge sounds like a lot!
The prices on the foods you listed isn't too far from what I pay here at a normal grocery store.
I would find out how much a taxi from CBR to the wal-mart or other store is...then compare that to the $20 delivery charge.
Another option (one that my family & I normally do) it to take a trip to Fort Wilderness Campground's store. (You can use the Disney transportation system) They have many items for sale (granted the prices are inflated - but hey it is Disney!) The price you pay there may actually end up being less in the long run after you factor in either the cost of a taxi or the $20 delivery charge.
Just an additional option...
Good luck to you and your family!

That delivery price is high, gardengrocers fee is 12 bucks for an order of $50.00. We've never used a delivery service before, we walked to Crossroads and shopped at Goodings, which others have said is expensive. The prices for what we got were reasonable to us, its about a mile walk from the DTD bus stop, nice area , well lit. Debating this trip what we're gonna do, walk or have the delivery. Even shecked into renting a car for one day, from the Grosner Resort, by DTD, rate of $18.22 for a day, more than the delivery fee but we can hit a couple of markets. Goodings is usually good enough for what we purchase and the walk there and back gets our legs ready for the rest of the stay, beats Disney prices anyway.

Good luck and enjoy your stay in the US and WDW.

We always rent a car, so I don't know how expensive a taxi is. I do know that Goodings is very pricey. You would make out much better going to the Publix or Windixie.

Food prices sound comparable to what I pay in NY.
$20 seems like a bit high but I pay $10 in Ny and I have to pick it up. I would personally put in one big order so you have everything you will need.

I pay $4.50 a gallon of milk in NY. Store brand is usually fine.
White Bread is what my kids like. Store Brand or Wonder is usually good. The Wonder kids is an enriched wheat bread made to appear like white. I am slowly getting my kids to like it.
Coke is $1.49 a bottle when its not on sale.
I suggest cereal bars or some sort of granola bars for easy snacks for both kids and adults. They also have small boxes of cereal that come in a 10 box variety pack that my kids love.
Also a case of water so you can carry your own into the park and fill it up in water fountain!

I think if you are not planning to rent a car this is the way to go!

Getting to a grocery store would be best (Winn-Dixie-Man I miss those here!!! :sad1: ) as they run drink deals every week. Winn-Dixie, IMO, has the best store brand drinks and milk. And ice cream too! But they eliminated all of the stores here in North Carolina. [end sobbing rant]

You could ask someone at your hotel the best way to get to them... whether or not there's Orlando has bus service to the off-site hotels area.... Or to call for a taxi. But unless you're fairly close, the cost can really add up quickly. Or you can rent a car for just one day and do all your running around that day...

Wow - thanks for all the great advice! Sure makes planning a trip for 15 family members a whole lot easier! And thanks for the kind welcomes to DIS! Don't know what I'd have done if I didn't find this site :thumbsup2

Are you going to have a refrigerator or pay for a refrigerator to be in your rooms? Usually those refrigerators are small also, so watch what you get. Don't want to over do it and have to throw some stuff out. But if you are just going to get cereal stuff, snack items and sandwich items, you should be fine. But you may have to take a shelf out to fit the gallon of milk. Sodas I just leave out and use ice from the ice machine and the cups. You can buy refillable mugs at the resort also. (Just an option) Refill with your choice: Sodas, Hot Chocolate, Coffee, Tea. I don't know if CBR had the free refills or charge for the refill. But if it is free it can more that pay for itself if you drink alot.

Last time I knew you could also rent cars over at Swan and Dolphin, a little easier then walking. A Disney bus stops right there. Get on bus at CBR to MGM, then change to SWAN/DOLPHIN Bus there. But you may want to double check that they still have rental cars, I know they did about 5-6 years ago. Alamo of course the official rental car of Disney.

Goodings is the higher end store in that area. Publix is good. There is also 2 Walmarts that are not that far away; however, would be expense to get there in a taxi. But if you rent a car for a day, not so bad. Walmart of course is a lot cheaper then most grocery stores and if there is anything else you may need, they'll have that too.

Another option to, is to us FL Tours or one of the services that pick up from airport and take you to hotel, that offers a free grocery stop. I have used that before and it worked out wonderfully.
