WDW First Week of August

I did not realize that knees could sweat until our trip the last week of July this year. That being said, as others have mentioned, thunderstorms can put a real kibosh on plans. The skyliner shuts down basically every day for a bit

We go the last 2 weeks of August every year and yes its hot but we love it. I've been in January and I'll take the heat an humidity all day over the cold. Lots of pool time and keep hydrated and you'll have a great trip.
My daughters and I did the first week of August and had some much fun. Yeah, it’s hot. Expect it to be. Dress for it. Plan breaks.

We are going back in August 2022 just because we enjoyed our trip so much.

Afternoon rain is expected. But it doesn’t last long. It won’t ruin your trip.

Agree! We are in Florida all times of year because we have family there, but plan our longer vacations during July/August specifically because of the weather. We love feeling the summer heat and Florida sunshine. Showers are unexpected and fun to get caught up in. We don’t open to close the parks, and spend time in the pool and a/c in the heat of the day.

We are Canadian DVC owners with points to burn this year and replacement annual passes that we have yet to activate. We were supposed to go for two weeks in March, but I cancelled as I’m not quite ready for theme parks yet in the current Covid environment. We will likely do a big trip next March but hoping to sneak in a could of smaller trips before then to activate and make use of our APs. I was able to book a 1 bedroom Boardwalk view at BWV for the first week August this summer, which works well timing wise for us as the kiddos are out of school. I know if will be HOT with lots of thunderstorms, but is it still manageable (and fun)? Any other concerns re WDW that time of year that I should be aware of?

From Victoria, BC. Last 2 trips have been in Aug. Very hot, very wet, sweat pours off you just standing in the sun, but better than no Disney.

It’s certainly better than not going - it’s an adventure , just don’t push too hard - go slow and smell the roses along the way. Have multiple august trips under our belt - would take the august sweating over huge crowds every day of the week

We're from Houston so we understand heat and humidity. August is not at all pleasant. You will have sweat rolling off of you from the moment you step outside your room until after your last shower at night. It really doesn't cool off much once the sun goes down either. The humidity makes it so crushing. Being from Canada, this might be more of a shock to your system than it is to ours even. So think about each member of your family and whether they can handle that. I say that with love because one of our kids would not have been able to handle it when he was younger--no health issue, just the heat would make him so uncomfortable, it would get difficult for him to enjoy himself (now I wait for those perfect parents to tell me this is my fault because my kid is a snowflake etc.).

If you can get over the heat hurdle, yes, it is still fun!

Tips from our last August trip:
  • Choose your clothes carefully. Cool sports fabrics are good.
  • Get some small umbrellas for creating your own shade when needed.
  • Drink water constantly!
  • Plan time to enjoy the resort pool; make that part of the vacation in addition to the parks.
  • When doing the parks, when it starts to feel like it's just too hot, go somewhere with AC where you can sit for a long time, preferably a place where you can get some waters or sodas and snacks. Allow yourself time to really cool off before you start again.
  • Plan a longer trip if you can so you can really take it easy. If you can't do a longer trip, take it easy anyway.

I've visited during July and August many times. A lot of great tips on here. Here's mine:
  • Rope drop until lunch, visiting attractions that are indoors or at least shaded.
  • Back to the villa for pool time, or way more likely, nap time.
  • Back to the park (or hop if you have hoppers) for dinner ADR (if you have one) and then close it down. I love getting an ADR around 5:00-5:30 and having dinner indoors while the hottest part of the day is winding down. After dinner, the sun is low enough in the sky.
  • Enjoy the parks in the evening when the parks tend to be open later (at least during non-Covid time). It will still be muggy, but not having the sun beat down on you is a BIG difference.
  • Either don't go into the parks every day or cut out the morning session and sleep in as needed. Avoid being in the parks from 1:00 PM to 5:00PM. You will tend to avoid many of the thunderstorms too.
  • Freeze your water bottles, bring or buy a cooling towel (soak it in cold water), rest in the shade or A/C when needed, grab a Dole Whip or favorite ice cream treat, and if you have to shell out 5 bucks for a bottled Dasani to stay hydrated, then do so.
  • Dress appropriately including a hat and sunglasses and use SUNSCREEN.
  • Plan on a nice cool shower back at the villa late in the evening.
