WDW DAS Question - Did Something Change?

  • I am in WDW right now and got my DAS on Saturday at Magic Kingdom. No problems whatsoever because was a reissue however something new happened. We only have 5 in our party all together but the CM asked me to have all of them identify themselves to him. This was not a problem that day because we were all there together, however on a normal trip we usually get there in the afternoon and I will head over with the kids to get everything sorted out leaving my husband at the hotel. I know when you have parties of 8 or more you are all supposed to be there, but does it now apply to everyone? If not, it is possible he asked me because the person in front of me had 16 with them (multi-generational trip) and he was just on a roll, so to speak. If anyone knows if this is a new policy I would appreciate it because would hate to get jammed up in the future by leaving someone behind. Thanks in advance!

My understanding is that at WDW if you have more than 6 people in your party all need to be present at Guest Relations when requesting the DAS. And same for more than 4 in the party at the California parks.

Enjoy your vacation!

This is what the CMs at both DHS and Epcot told us last month. We started as a party of five - no need to have all party members present. Then when my parents joined us and we had a party of seven, we needed everyone there at the same time. The CMs confirmed this rule applies to parties of more than 6.

Sorry for posting the question twice. I could not find my original post so thought I had made a mistake with the new board set up when posting. Again, SORRY!!!!

Got one Sunday for 6 with only 2 of us present.

Its funny, usually its just me and DS who has special needs. So, we only get a DAS for 2 people. The CMs are usually like, TWO??? Just TWO? Like they cannot believe it or something. Esp at Disneyland. I answer, yes, just us 2!

I travel to WDW solo and they seem to have a hard time believing that I only want it issued for one person as well. I think they get used to so many big groups that it just isn't the norm.

Probably because it is difficult for most persons to have only 1 family member alone with the disabled person. My daughter has autism and we need at least two of us to handle her especially in public. I can't even go alone to a grocery store with her.

I had kind of a related problem. We are a family of four, but only I and one (ASD) DS go to the parks usually. The DAS is for 4 people, because sometimes we do all go to the parks.

I went to tsmm, at the return time to ride, and 2nd fp check person asked how many (like always). I said two. He checked the card, and asked me where the other two people are. He wasn't being casual or chatty - he wanted an answer. I got the impression there has been an issue of people getting cards for more than necessary and they are trying to crack down? I don't know - I felt like I was being accused of something. Maybe I'll bring a family photo next time ...

If that happens to me I would just give a straight honest answer -- "they aren't doing this ride with us right now." No need to worry or feel defensive; no need to elaborate on their whereabouts. There is no rule that everyone in the party must ride all rides together. Maybe he thought the others were further back in line or would be trying to join you or something. Who knows what he thought, but I wouldn't take it personal.

Glad you enjoyed your vacation!

Thanks - that's true that maybe he was just trying to be helpful - if the other 2 were back in the bathroom etc.!
