Bell Services hero
This is one of the kind of stories that never seems to get enough recognition. Disney College Program cast member Paul Sherrer, a former U.S. soldier, was working in Bell Services at the Port Orleans Riverside resort when he performed another heroic act.

Sherrer was returning to the resort's main building after delivering some luggage when he heard some commotion at the resort's marina. He hopped onto his Pargo (luggage) golf cart and raced to the marina to find an upset young girl who said that her 4-year-old brother had slipped and fallen into the river.

"I jumped off the Pargo at full speed [into the water] and felt around on the bottom," said Sherrer. "I found him and pulled him up to safety."

Sherrer's actions were celebrated by Disney on July 10. Vice President of Resort Operations and Transportation Kevin Myers presented Paul with a letter from Meg Crofton, president of the Walt Disney World Resort, commending him for his bravery.

Kudos to Sherrer for his quick thinking, quicker action and bravery in rescuing the boy. Here's to the cast members that truly give their all for guest safety!

Wow!! that is amazing... and I will pretend that I did not see the picture in your signature on the left.

Wow-impressive!

That really is wonderful... but I have to ask, what were two little kids doing alone next to open water? :sad2:

What a great story! Thanks for sharing it. :)

What a hero! Scary that the kid sank like a rock and he had to feel around on the bottom to find him!

Along with that letter a dinner at the restaurant of his choice for him and his family would be nice.

Somehow I knew that was coming... :sad2:

What a heart warming story! I'm so happy that the CM's senses were alerted and he went to investigate!

Thank goodness he was there and responded so quickly. I love happy endings.:)

What? What's the head shaking about? Am I alone in wondering where the supervision for these children was? :confused3 If this heroic CM had not been nearby, this story would have turned out tragically.

You're not alone. While I think it's awesome that this CM reacted the way he did and that the child is OK, my thoughts also included:

Wasn't there anyone closer that could have helped in the time it took the CM to drive the golf cart over there?

Good thing the sister didn't jump in to try to save her brother and put herself in danger, as well.

How old was the sister.... was she old enough to be watching her little brother?

You are certainly not alone. My first thought was "where was mom or dad?". Having that thought doesn't take away from what the CM did, but it needs to be asked.

Here here! :thumbsup2

I have tears in my eyes reading it.

As to where are the parents? Sometimes at places like Disney (the happiest place on earth) parents get a false sense of security and don't watch their kids as much as they do at home. Also in the all excitement often parents relax and relax too much on their parenting duties. I am not saying it is right, just that it happens. Even to parents who normally use good judgment.
