Just get on the bus, Gus...!

Do we really need another line to stand in????

At the end of the night when my daughter is asleep in my arms and my son is asleep on my husbands back cause he fell asleep being piggy backed...do you really think i want to whip out my room key to board the already crowded bus???? NO WAY

Birnbaum's guide is the 'official' guide because they have paid Disney for the priviledge of being able to say that. I wouldn't say that anything you see in it is etched in stone. I do know that I have been told, as well as seen on Disney literature, that anyone who holds a park pass is entitled to use of WDW transportation. That's it...plain and simple. I think life would be much better if people didn't try to tweak things to their benefit. I'm not sure how many times I have to say it, or a Disney driver has to say it.....it just isn't that big a deal. There are not all that many non-resort people riding those buses. It's not a 'secret rule', it's just what I've been told by CM's as well as seen in literature while in WDW.

I agree as it would just slow boarding down and make the trip to your resort even longer!:rotfl2:

I am curious to know, how you know any rule regarding WDW transportation exists or does not exist?

I am willing to bet there is a rule, policy, etc. either saying:

1)Anyone can use WDW transportation at any time.
-OR-
2)The only people allowed to use WDW transportation are those w/some type of park hopper pass and/or resort guests.

A rule exists for no other reason than for Disney to protect themselves legally in the event that something happens.

If Disney does have a habit of looking the other way on some rules, then what other rules are they ignoring??? It is going to bite them one day.

I thought that I had explained it in my previous post.

WDW Transportation (buses, watercraft and monorails) is available to anyone who has valid admission media.
It is Also available to ALL WDW Resort Guests.

So the only guests that are not allowed WDW Transportation is the guest that does not have admission media or a resort ID. An example is a DTD shopper (non park or resort guest) who now wants to go to, let's say to the Boardwalk. The number of guests that would do something like this will not impact the availability of seats so we are not giong to worry about them.

So, while it is technically not allowed for the guests in the above paragraph to be entitled to WDW Transportation, in fact this is a very small percentage of the riders and in fact this is not a problem. If it was to become a problem then you would see the issue adderssed in some way. There are options that can be implemented IF it becomes necessary.

I agree that if you have a park hopper type pass and/or you have a KTTW then you should have access to WDW transportation.

Perhaps, you should re-read post #27, which, by the way, is just above your "previous" post, #28, prior to giving me the riot act.

I will post it again:
I found this at Mouse Planet:

Who can use Disney Transportation

"Whether or not you can "legally" use WDW's transportation system depends on two things. First, all "park hopper" admission media permits the bearer to use WDW's transportation. Annual Pass holders, for example, are permitted full use of the system. Second, guests of Disney-owned and operated resorts are permitted full use of the system during the duration of their stay".

As with most bits of info on the internet, the above may be false to a degree. I really do not know. However, I have not found one tiny bit of info that implies that just anyone can use WDW transportation system.

If you have some type of "park hopper" pass -OR- you are resort guess, then I feel you should have full use of the WDW system.

I may have believed incorrectly, as others have, that WDW transportation was reserved for resort guests. Obviously, that is not true.

I did underline "stay" in the above quote, because some people will use a VERY loose interpretation of the term"resort guests" to mean anyone coming to a resort for ANY reason(ie. breakfast, lunch, dinner, SHOPPING). Is it REALLY right for someone to eat breakfast at a resort and then hop the bus, boat or monorail to go to a park for the day? Not only is this person taking up resort guest parking but they are bypassing parking fees.

An example of how frustrating this could be:
On one of the last days of our visit to SSR, we got on a bus to AK. Had to stand with a stroller, a five year old and a 22 month old. A teenager, one of a group of seven, stood up and asked the bus driver, "How close will this bus get me to ???? hotel across from the DTD disney area"? The bus driver told him and the teenager sat down. At the bus stop closest to DTD and the off-site hotels, the group got off and ran across the busy street back to their hotel. Yeah, I could sit down!!! Obviously, they were not "park hopping".

So, ask yourself,"How many times have I had to stand on a bus and someone sitting down just really should not be on the bus"???

What I would really like to know, what is the actual, no kidding, written down DISNEY policy about who is allowed to use WDW transportation?

goofy4tink,
I think your parking fee plan is the right idea.

What I was responding to is the assumption by Lewisc, that there is NO enforcable rule regarding WDW transportation. I beg to differ. You as a bus driver have alluded to the fact that there IS such a rule, and that there are plans to enact if non-pass holders/non-resort bus crashers become an issue.

My point is that there is a rule and someone(bus driver or management or a combination) is choosing not to enforce it by whatever means. That is wrong, period.

Actually, there WAS a time when Disney would occasionally enforce the resort-guests-only system, but this ended sometime in the early nineties. Not long before the park closed I remember seeing a CM at the MK monorail entrace checking for (1) resort ID; or (2) a "transportation ticket" ($2 at the time) enabling full use of the WDW transportation system for 1 day. Moreover, if you stayed at what was then the "WDW Village Hotel Plaza" you were allowed full use of the BUSES.

Obviously, this system got unwieldy the more resorts were built. Deservedly too.

I give up.

If anyone here has a problem with the current system, write Disney and express your concerns.

Okay....you have a bus driver giving you the 'rule' as he sees fit to interpret. There is nothing actually written down, out in plain sight, for all to see, that would suggest anything different. As cranbiz has said....those with no park pass or resort room key are not supposed to ride the bus. But, it is not written down, in plain sight for anyone to see, so it really isn't an issue. You all say Disney should 'enforce' this rule. Let's get real here. There are written, in plain sight rules regarding reusing mugs and the use of pools...no one is enforceing those rules. Why would anyone think that Disney would enforce an obscure rule regarding about perhaps 1/2% of people riding a bus? They do nothing to enforce written, commonly known rules.
Let's stop rehashing the whole 'rule' thing. It's a moot point.

I guess the only possibility would be if WDW had a fleet of "resort only" busses. But that's not realistic either. I guess I can see the OP point if he was under the impression it was for resort guests only.

To Supersuperwendy....loved your "get on the bus Gus" comment! made me LOL

To Cranbiz....don't give up! We love you all in the purple pants!

We leave tomorrow and are sooooo excited!!! Been counting down since over 300 days ago!

Peace Love & Mickey to all!

Hi, as far as I know, you used to have to show the bus driver a Resort ID to get on, back in the 1990s and earlier. But as time moved on, they stopped asking to see the ID and now pretty much you can ride transportation when at the resort or park to go back to where you are staying. As of right now, they don't ask to show ID, it doesnt say it anywhere in any of the information that you get at check-in at your resort. Also from what i've seen, none of the guests ever have the resort keys/ID cards in hand when boarding the buses or any of the transportation services at the Disney complex. I hope this was a help to you. If you have anymore questions fee free to ask! Hope you have a Magical Stay at the Walt Disney World Resort!
