i like to know who else agrees with me that you should show resort ID when boarding the buses.

1) it is a perk of staying on site and who knows how many times we might not have been able to get a seat because it was taken up by someone just going to another park or DTD.

2) it makes sense for security reasons, anyone can get on any bus and follow you back to your resort

Disney likes it when guests visit resorts to dine, shop or even "scope" out the resort for a future stay. Disney likes a guest who takes a bus from MGM to the Contemporary in order to have dinner at CM or CG.

The buses are designed to accomodate standees. Disney runs the buses more frequently when there are a lot of passengers. Restricting buses to resort guests might just result in less frequent bus service.

I don't agree with your statement.

I have found the buses to be a great service. Never had to wait more than 15 minutes, easier to get from place to place and usually pleasant drivers.

JMHO. As far as security, never really thought about it.

I really do not see it as a security problem, a resort guest could be just as "dangerous" as a non resort guest.
Since Disney issues Park Hopper passes it would certainly be advantageous for them to allow anyone to use the transportation system, and as Lewisc states they want you to dine and shop at the resorts.
The only time I have had to stand on the buses is at night when the parks close and I am pretty certain that most of those people standing in that long line waiting to get on a bus are going back to the resort.
I've never had any problems with the bus system and see no reason to regulate the travel on them to resort guests.

Disney transportation is also included in the price of park tickets, so the buses are not exclusivly for the use of guests staying at Disney hotels. Transportation is for the use of ALL resort guests, not just those staying at a Disney hotel. The WDW Resort includes all guest areas on property not just hotels.

thanks to both you and LEWICS for enlightening me.

i know it specifically says that the use of the WDW Transportation system is a perk for staying on site, but if it is included in the park tickets and basically
available to anyone at the parks or hotels than it's really not a perk
and shouldn't be sold as one

Well, it certainly is a perk for getting to the park in the 1st place! I tried the Holiday Inn route for a cple yrs since they had busses for the parks, but it was only 2 or 3 specific times in the am you could get a bus and only for the 4 major parks.
Plus the getting "home" was a pain b/c you had to be out at a specific lane at a specific time(s).
I enjoyed using wdw busses so much the last cple visits for park hopping that it made me want to stay on property so I could fully take advatage of it! Gee, don't think Disney planned it that way do you? lol
Maybe for security purposes, you should have to show either a valid park pass or resort ID to use the busses?

It would slow down loading the buses so much that it wouldn't be worth taking them.

As far as someone following you, what makes you think that a person staying at a Disney resort wouldn't be just as likely to do that?

Holding any park pass at all entitles you to all the WDW transportation..boats, monorails, buses. Can you imagine what would happen if you were staying off-site and wanted to eat at 'Ohana? And you were visiting Epcot? You would have to get in your car and drive back over to the TTC and then hoof it to the Polynesian. Disney doesn't want anyone to have to work too hard to spend their hard earned money at WDW.
I think that you may be surprised at how few people on the buses are truly off-site people. I would imagine it is a very small percentage.

I agree 100%.

I wouldn't be in favor of ANYTHING that will slow down the bus-boarding process. I want to get where I'm heading already.

And if someone who wasn't an on-site Disney guest wanted to follow you back to your resort, all they'd need to do is drive to your resort and wait for you there.

I don't know why they should check resort ID's on the bus. You don't have to be staying at one to be going there.

I voted yes but I think this should only be done during the major holiday seasons. Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years. Because there would be a lot more guests around WDW during those times, I think only then should bus service be limited to those staying onsite.

Would you rather WDW guests, dining at Chef Mickey's, CG or whatever the Concourse Steakhouse becomes take a WDW bus or drive and park at the Contemporary? You do understand those restaurants are open to the public.

And of course you won't complain about the longer wait to board the bus because of the ID check and the lack of parking because of the non-hotel guest who are eating at the hotel taking up the spaces because thet are not allowed on the exclusive bus to the hotel. As locals I know my parents often drive down with their APs in hand to enjoy a meal at a hotel then the fireworks from the parks, I guess by your thinking they will have to park at the hotel in order to eat there since they won't be allowed on the bus.

Anyone who makes ADR's at those restaurants has a right to park there for their meal. If they wish to visit the Magic Kingdom after then they might as well valet park, because that way they are not taking up a space in the self parking lot.

I was under the assumption that the only perk for staying in the park was the ME and not the transportation buses. I never read anywhere that said it was exclusively for people that reserved hotels in the park.

However, if others do use it, Disney has made great accomadations to make things easy for everyone.

Nope, it will never happen. But, the problem is that when Disney markets the postive aspects of staying on-site, they do say that you can take advantage of all the WDW transportation to get you around WDW. It does come off as if only resort guests can use the buses/monorail/boats. Again, I don't think there are all that many people jumping on buses that aren't resort guests. Besides, why should someone who is staying at AllStar Music be able to hop on the bus at the CR, while someone staying at the Holiday Inn can't??! Yes, I know, they are staying at a WDW resort whereas the Holiday Inn person isn't. But, it's a slippery slope here.....that would soon lead to some saying that only those staying at the Polynesian should be able to take the bus that goes to the Polynesian and so on. Nope, I just don't see it. And I don't see it needed for the holiday times either. Plan accordingly, leave enough time to get someplace. Or head wherever it is you're going at less peak times.

I was taking a bus from DTD to my resort. A family, with very rude kids, were wearing bathing suits. The mother said something like the pool we're going to is much nicer then the pool in our hotel.

Disney has does very little to keep people from "crashing" the resorts. That includes pool hoppers and people crowding the beach at the POLY.

I still don't think asking for resort IDs is an answer.
