please rate the buffets you have been to at WDW for dinner

Also if looking for good variety of fresh fruit, veggies, lean meat, fish - which of them would you recommend

If characters are not important, my favorite is boma. They have very interesting salads (though those will be pre-dressed obviously) and their carved meats have interesting spices along with good fish dishes.

If you want characters I would do Tusker House, which has a very similar menu.

Crystal Palace is another favorite of mine, they have the rotisserie meats which makes them yummy and a pretty large salad area.

Boma is the best buffet on property. Tusker House is a close second but they are ran by the same chef I believe. Buffets for the most part at Disney are just so so. Most have characters which is where they get their draw. Most restaurants at Disney either have great food with minimal theming or okay food with lots of theming. There are a few exceptions like Sanaa.

We only do Breakfast Buffets, but that being said I'd say:

-Crystal Palace as #1 for the combination of location, food, and the lovely Pooh Characters.
-Tusker House #2, which I find similar to Boma, but the location of AK is easier to get to, and that mouse guy and his friends are there
-Boma #3, which may have the best food by a slim margin over Crystal Palace or Tusker House, but the lack of Characters and hard to get to location puts it a bit behind the other two. It's still great of course.

I believe that Wave also now has a great Breakfast Buffet!

Best to worst in order (only the ones we've experienced of course)

1. Cape May Café
2. Tusker House
3. Hollywood and Vine
4. Biergarten (been a while. Is it still a buffet?)
5. Chef Mickey's
6. Crystal Palace
7. 1900 Park Fare

Here's the ones we've tried, from favorite to least favorite:

1-Biergarten Dinner
2-Cape May Dinner
3-Cape May Breakfast
4-Biergarten Lunch
5-Chef Mickey's Breakfast
6-Hollywood & Vine Dinner
7-Chef Mickey's Dinner
8-Crystal Palace Dinner

I think Boma is the best overall buffet. The food selection is great and always plenty of choices. After that 1900 would be a close second since it has the biggest selection of food to choice from. From that point it seems like, to me at least, Chef Mickey, CP, and Cape May are about the same. I would not be rushing back to any of those. The only nice thing about them is you get the character meet and greet done at your table so you are not waiting in lines while you are in the parks for those.

We have done quite a few dinner buffets - we are NOT "foodies", so must everything at Disney tastes pretty good to us.

Biergarten - this is probably DH's favorite, everything we have had here was good
Cape May - We like this one a lot too. DH loves steamed mussels, and he can eat his weight in those. The food here has always been good, service has been spotty at times.
1900 Park Fare - We've had dinner here twice and all the food was fine, but nothing that we raved about. I don't like strawberries, so the famous strawberry soup didn't lure me in.
Chef Mickey's - We had dinner here once and it was okay. The food was hot and plentiful, but we decided we like breakfast much better and won't be back for dinner.
Hollywood & Vine (Minnie's Holiday Dine) - the food here was VERY good, lots of different sorts of things that were delicious.
Crystal Palace - We have been here a couple times, it was very good. My DH really likes Salmon and that with the mashed potatoes was a huge hit.

Another vote for Boma. We too like Tusker House a lot. We also enjoyed the fish at Cape May's dinner buffet.

I am not a big fan of buffets at all, especially for lunch/dinner... I like quality over quantity and I'm of the opinion very few buffets can make mass produced food that is of at least average quality and WDW is no exception. My list has few that rate at least average for me.

Breakfast:
  • The Wave- The best kept secret when it comes to breakfast buffets. The buffet table is not large, but the food is fresh, clean and replenished and is actually of above average quality. I admit I was surprised.
  • Crystal Palace- I love pre-opening entry. I enjoy that it has a fresh egg/omelet station. The Breakfast Lasagna is as addicting as any drug. And Pooh and Friends are a lot of fun.
  • Tusker House- It was average quality and I enjoyed the characters as well.
  • Cape May- Average food. I wish it had an omelet station though. I really hate mass made eggs sitting on a table. The characters here are the best of the breakfast buffets.
Chef Mickey- The worst dining experience I have ever had whether it be a QS, TS or a buffet; it was loud, filthy, poor service and absolutely horrendous food. One and done for me.

Lunch/Dinner:
  • Boma- From average to just above average... Actually a huge complement from me when it comes to a buffet.
  • Biergarten- Average quality food but the atmosphere is so much fun.
That's it. Tusker House and Cape May just don't quite make it for me.

Boma!!!! I love the variety of food. Enough to feed my picky grandmunchkins and get them full, as well as wonderful soups, salads, carved meats and lots of yummy dessert!!!

Crystal Palace when the boys were young, for breakfast, now we are going to wait on that one.

Let me start by saying our family does not fair well at buffets...We tend not to eat quantities that warrants the price of food you get at most buffets...
Chef Mickey's - Average, great character interaction
Boma - Good food and variety, so far removed
Crystal Palace - One of our favorites...good variety at breakfast
Biergarten - Good food, good entertainment

I wouldn't advise against trying Boma since so many people seem to like it, but it wasn't our cup of tea. The seasonings on everything tasted like cinnamon and sugar, so we didn't enjoy it.

We prefer dinner buffets, but really like 1900 Park Fare for breakfast. Didn't like their dinner food, but we do think breakfast there is awesome.

The dinner buffets/AYCE that we've liked are 'Ohana, Cape May Cafe, Biergarten, and Crystal Palace (if we don't care about having drinks that night). We used to enjoy Chef Mickey, but last time we were there, I was so disappointed in how poor the desserts had gotten, I'd only try it again if I'm there with little kids.
