I am toying with the idea of getting one, but won't be going until the end of the year.

I seem to remember that if you bought one you didn't have to activate it until you got there. Is this still the case? :)

If you buy now they will send you a voucher which you will have to take to a guest services or ticket window to exchange for the actual pass when you arrive (plus you need to take ID).

The year starts from when you get the actual pass.

As Tracey says, if you buy online, you will get a voucher which will be activated when you exchange for an AP at WDW. If you buy in person at WDW, the AP will be activated immediately.

it works out cheaper to buyer a 14 or 21 day then change it to an annual when you are there

Actually you may be better off with the 7 day ticket as they can bridge the price on it - see my thread about upgrading UK tickets from the other day.

If you know you want the AP and are not tied to getting tickets in a package you might be best off getting tickets from somewhere like Undercover Tourist and get a discounted MYW ticket - use once and then upgrade. Full explanation of this can be found on the sticky All about Ticket on the Theme Parks Board :goodvibes

Thanks for the replies - looks like I've got some more reading to do then about upgrading :)
