My dd has been gluten free/casien free for 10 months now. It has been one of the greatest things we have tried for her. If anyone has any advice on an infraction-free vacation, I'm all ears.

What restaurants seem the most accomadating or offer the best menu? What treats if any in the parks do you know of?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sarah- going last week in July

My DS is 4yo PDD-NOS and on GF/CF. We're DVC members, so we mail a box of GF/CF items to the hotel before we leave. May want to send along some of her favorite items for when you arrive.

My son's favorite: ANDI bars! Great to pack for the day.(http://www.autismndi.com/store/)

As for the restaurants, most of them can make special CF/GF items if you give them enough notice. Call WDW-DINE or an individual restaurant and ask to talk to the chef -- they're usually very accomodating. In our experience, they usually come right over to the table and ask about favorite items and tell you what they can do.

We've had great success at Spoodles, the Cape May Cafe and Chef Mickey's with things like chicken breast, pancakes/waffles, etc....

Thanks TimmyP. I am going to call. We are pretty use to this diet now and it is like 2nd nature- but I still get uneasy when I'm not preparing the food.

Thanks for the information Timmy... My wife and daughter eat Gluten Free and it's great to hear that accomodations can be made for their condition. We are currently in the process of making our ADRs for late Sept. and Early Oct. for the free dining. One thing I've made sure to do is mention to whomever I'm talking to on the phone for our TS ADRs isthat we'll need Gluten Free meals for 1 adult and 1 child.

Hello All,

I just saw this thread and decided to post. Thank you Sarah for starting this topic.

My son, 4yo, is autistic and has been on a GF/CF diet since October 2005. Recently, due to allergy testing, he's also become Soy Free and Egg Free. Whew!

We've taken many trips to WDW before, but this will be the first time that we visit with the new dietary restrictions. Call me crazy, but my best friend, her son, and my son and I will be at Walt Disney World on the "Magical Beginnings" plan from 8/21/2006 - 8/26/2006. Then, on 8/26/2006, my husband, my son, and I will board the Disney Magic for a 7-Day Western Caribbean Cruise. I AM ON PINS AND NEEDLES. Even though I keep hearing that the folks at WDW are very accomodating to dietary needs (and I would expect this knowing Disney), I am still having a hard time finding specific information about people's experiences at the world while on a Gf/CF diet (and perhaps SF & EF, too :stir: )

I am starting my ADR's this weekend, and will certainly inform them as to his dietary needs. I am also mailing out a package of GF/CF/SF/EF snacks to the All Star Sports Hotel shortly before we leave, so that he has safe alternatives to munch on.

I have also found out the following:

 The Itzakadoozie Ice Pop sold throughout the resort is supposedly GF/CF.
:thumbsup2 Apparently, if you call each theme park directly, they can provide you with at least a GF listing of snacks throughout the park.

I am most concerend with the Counter Service meals that we will have with the Dining Plan part of the Magical Beginnings package. So, does anyone have any specific examples of Counter Service locations where they were successful in obtaining a GF/CF meal without too much hassle?

Any one have experience cruising with Disney on a GF/Cf diet? Any specific snacks that are appropriate or other tips?

My son is so excited to be going on the trip, and we are all so happy to be getting some fun time away from the last year of ups and downs. :woohoo: I just want him to remain healthy and happy during the trip. :yay:

Good luck to all of you planing trips with special needs children!

I went in May with my FIL who is diabetic. At Flame tree they did not have a diabetic dessert. The manager sent someone to Restaurantasourus to get sugar free ice cream.I was told if I had given them advance notice they would have had something waiting for him.

I would call and see what Disney can set up.

Thanks for tip, MJ. I'm making some calls tomorrow for ADR's. I'll post any new information I learn about special dietary requests.

G'night.

They were really nice about it even brought it to where we were sitting didn't make me come back to the counter for it.

Pixie...due to our allergy test results that we have just gotten back last week, we are now gf/cf/egg-free...so the fun continues. We have always been "soy-lite"...

My favorite locations for special diet meals are: Flame Tree, Tusker House, Casey's, Cosmic Ray's and Liberty Inn. I've had a horrible experience at Pecos Bill's (bunless bacon cheeseburgers took 45 minutes, came out with buns at least twice, and then we got one with bacon and one with cheese).

In addition to the itaskadoozie bars, the minnie strawberry bars are also GF/CF, as are the orange juice bars. They claim that the frozen lemonaid (minute maid) is GF, but I've gotten conflicting information from Coke on that product, so I avoid it.

We're currently just GF, but have been GF/CF/SF etc free in the past, for a point of reference.

My sister (17, will be 18 by trip) was just diagnosed with celiac and is now gluten free. We are on the Disney Dining Plan and I told the CM about the special dietary needs of my sister and it was marked on our ADRs for our table service meals. I am also worried about the counter service meals as well, since I don't know how knowledgeable the CMs at the registers/etc will be about celiac and I of course want her to have a good eating experience. She is taking her diagnosis pretty hard, because she is really limited in what she can eat and so many of her favorite foods (such as pizza, pasta, cake, etc) are now off limits unless they are specifically gluten-free. I was also looking for tips. Thanks!
