This has some potentially interesting twists that could also eventually impact the parks and your MDE app. If WDW installs Ibeacon sensors, WDW could potentially could embed the Ibeacon protocol into the MDE app for crowd control. IBeacon is allready in many IDevices today. The NFC portion could also be linked to your MDE account and to your Park Media in Idevices and Android devices. Very interesting stuff...

Apple Stores Get New iBeacon Sensors, Disney Stores Get NFC

If you hate waiting in long lines at your favorite local Disney retail store, then we have some good news for you. According to sources speaking to 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman, The Walt Disney Company is allegedly upgrading its Disney retail stores with brand-new credit card machines that can handle NFC payments.
While that might not matter to those who aren't a fan of the mouse, it's worth knowing that Disney and Apple have been pretty close partners for some time now. We don't want to speculate, but it is rather coincidental that Disney stores are getting NFC readers at the same time that a new Apple smartphone with rumored NFC capabilities—and possibly an emphasis on mobile payments—might be right around the corner.
As Gurman notes, McDonald's will also soon be rolling out NFC-based payment systems in a number of its franchises. Insert your own speculation here as to whether it, and Disney, might be launch partners for Apple's rumored mobile payments system.
Apple, too, is doing a bit of hardware upgrading. The company will be installing newer iBeacon devices across its retail stores this week, which will allow Apple to more precisely track users' movements within its stores. Not only is that advantageous for Apple's marketing and store design efforts, but it also allows the company to have greater accuracy for verifying that a particular person's smartphone is indeed theirs.
That's one of the key steps involved with authenticating a person's device for mobile payments—a field Apple is rumored to be exploring in much greater depth with the launch of its new iPhones (expected to be revealed at this Tuesday's big announcement).
Though unconfirmed, 9to5Mac is also reporting that Apple is allegedly working on its own iBeacon device—its aforementioned upgrades will instead use Gimbal Proximity Beacons. It's unclear what the technical advantages might be were Apple to do so, but it would presumably allow the company to save money with its system-wide rollouts. And, of course, Apple could potentially sell its iBeacon devices to others companies looking to deploy the service in their retail stores.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this "new" technology and devices will be leveraged.

OMG, I sound like an MBA!

WDW is confirmed getting ApplePay by Christmastime.

I am wondering why WDW would go with ApplePay after all the effort put into magic bands.

I must be missing something.

NFC can be tracked just like the Magic Bands. My Android has NFC and it can read the Magic bands and the room keys.

I think that the WDW system is just a different implementation. Its probably just a software update kind of thing to get the existing readers to recognize ApplePay transmissions and then the back-end for processing the payment.

Does this mean Disney will be able to track anyone with a new iPhone 6 or 6+ throughout the parks even if they eschew a magic band. Feeling a little:

Actually, they can probably do that now with your current iPhone. I've read several stories about "iBeacons" that will locate you very precisely. Apple is implementing this in their stores.

I sorry but why does this just sound like a bad idea having credit card information accessible on your phone.

Apple actually made a point to say that no credit card info would be accessible on your phone (or Watch).

There is a "secure store" on the phone where the info is held and can be wiped remotely if needed. The CC info is never transferred via NFC. A "one time use" token is exchanged between the Point-of-Sale device and the phone. That token is only good for that one sale. Even if intercepted or copied, that token
is no valid for any other transactions after its initial use. You also have to use the fingerprint reader on the phone to complete the transaction.

This is a step above Chip and Pin cards.

I Beacon has to be built into an app. It is not turned on natively in the phone. it can only be called by an app running on the phone. When you go into Loews and have the Loews app on, they know where you are in the store. This will be the same in Apple Stores. Disney could easily implement this technology inside the MDE app.

As I said in the OP, lots of interesting possibilities with the new tech.

I wonder how popular this will actually be I know a company her in Toronto tried to do something similar that you could put a RFID type sticker on your phone and contact your bank account info to it to pay in some of the shops and fast food places in Union station. They planned to expand it further but the readers for it dispersed about 6 months later as I don't think anyone bothered with it.

Very true many have attempted to implement the same kind of set up and failed.

Apple has massive influence in the market place at current. So they will be able to 'push' this tech to the general public.
Not to mention they have deep pockets and can spend money on educating the public about this tech. As anyone or any business tell you this is the most expensive area for any product (educating people about it) apple can certainly get the word out to large number of people.

Apple is not in the business of investing new tech (despite what many think)
They are in the business of sitting back and letting others do the hard work...then apple will very carefully step in and take over a sector or product category.
Apple then spends it's time working out what others failed to do right. Mostly focusing on the actual customer experience

Think about it for years before iPod countless number of music devices and MP3 players existed, same with mobile, phones, etc
None of them really took off. But the iPod combined with iTunes was a massive hit.
Apple,is really good at taking outside concepts and Turing them into gold.

Then apple goes out and get big names and business behind the tech...which pushes this into the market place much faster and efficiently
And creates large public appeal and acceptance (acceptance is a key word)

Apple,is great at selling tech onto the public. They make everything so amazing, the best every made, look sexy and fantastic etc
They really can sell their products. Just look every time they release a new phone. They break preorder sells records,,have, people camping outside stores, and really drive Internet media to their products. When in fact those devices are just slight improvements over the pervious version. When they have the tech years ahead of what is in market place. Cause they have to ease the public into new tech and keep the learning curve non existent

Personally I see no advantage with apple pay and find it worthless
And easily comprised. Even though if you buy into the sell apple gives that no credit card data is stored on your device or given to merchant
Your details, will, still be stored on apple data server farms ...this is how your unique device code works. Your device code is created and stored with apple. Which in the back end links your bank and credit details to your unique code.

This is why hackers and down right "bad guys" are in love with technology. Where In the past they had to been extremely cleverly and could only rip off small number of people for large dollars amounts. Current technology and this present need to digitally hoard all personal information..makes their scams allot easier. And don't have to put in much effort. They can hack a large database and gain access to massive amounts of peoples info steal small sums of money that usually go unnoticed and make allot more off their scam. They can do this to a number of people that they only could ever dream about scamming.

The above is really not that different from what happened to the target red cards last year
Hacker did not have to steal your card data or steal it at point of sale. Rather they just hacked the massive database that stored everyone's bank details.
And target had literally no firewalls or protection to this database. Most people, want to believe this sort of hack is complex..when in fact basic computer skills give anyone the skills to do this. You just have to be willing to do it. And sad fact is there are many people, out there looking to,do this
And there are so many companies selling tech, software, devices that do all this hard work for you

If,someone can invent the tech...someone can hack it

I'm a major tech guy and early adopter. I also buy tech companies just to get my hands on future tech years ahead of market place
But I have no interest in apple, pay and really don't get it

Considering that apple makes 0.15% off every apple pay purchase. They are invested in this and want it to succeed.
Apples keynote gives you all the info on how many purchases made every day in USA. And how much money is spent everyday. They stand to make some bucks
Apples cut is also higher if Bluetooth payments are used

As this is how apple makes most of its coin
App Store,iTunes, 3rd party applications etc create massive revenue for apple...while apple does nothing but sit back and let others do all the work while apple takes a slice of the pie...a large slice sometimes
Apple, gives the platform and the tools needed to create the products and services that make these device work in the real world
Thus why they are so big on third party apps. As these are what we all load are devices up,with and use on a daily basis.

If apple can bring everything they have done with iPod,macs, iphone to apple,pay..it will be a huge hit
And it,will, eventually become the only way to,pay
Payments via mobile, phone have existed for many years in japan. So if implemented right people will embrace it
