okay - I had gotten all caught up and then it was off to get Kaleigh and get Shaelyn a milkshake.

Deb, Kaz, Jackie - great pics:thumbsup2

Ian - hope the meeting with the new boss went well:goodvibes

Michelle - hope you're feeling better:grouphug:
today that I had not seen before....time to share.

Holly - hope things calmed down again with Tyler's dad, and that you all can work things out. I don't think stepmom has same rights as you, but unfortunately, with the shared custody he lives with her half of the time, so I think her and Tyler's dad are splitting 50% and you have 50%. How she and Tyler's dad split their 50% is beyond your control. If Tyler's dad is giving her his authority when Tyler is in their house, that not necessarily bad. I think its good for Tyler to feel equal to his sister and he won't be if he knows he doesn't have to listen to his stepmom. As a kid, I didn't like being at my dad's when stepmom's kids were there as we were all treated different. I will say, its a difficult situation and its admirable that you and Tyler's dad are trying to give him the best of both worlds.:thumbsup2

A little late, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the birthday girls :cutie::cutie:

The kid just called...him and John are at the border (NJ/PA) so 15 minutes from home. I just phoned in a Chinese food order that they'll pick up on their way home. So tonight will be Chinese food, chocolate cake and champagne....a perfect birthday celebration.:goodvibes

Deb, hope you are enjoying your celebration! Sounds great :dance3:

On a positive note, I ended up taking the day off and am getting caught up on some computer time:thumbsup2
On a negative note, I ended up taking the day off to stay home with Shaelyn :(
Its been a day of cuddling and watching Disney tv. Thankfully her fever seems to be doing better and she was actually attempting to eat, so hopefully tomorrow I'll be back at work.
Now I'm heading back to read everything I've missed:goodvibes

Shannon, great pics! Hope Shaelyn continues to feel better

And where has the Birthday Girl been ??? She hasnt been on here since WE started debating how much of HER cake she should have. You ok Deb???? Michelle started it!!!

Sure... blame her sugar coma on me... :cutie:

Hi All....I'm here Bubba.....I did eat the cake....I counted the points and I did extra on the exercise bike.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. I'm waiting for John to get home so we can pop the bubbly and get this party started.

:woohoo: :woohoo:

Sounds good to me!!!

I had a really enjoyable day off work today! Took my mom out for lunch to celebrate her 75th birthday. Lunch was very, very good! They have an afternoon tea there as well, so we've decided we're going back to the same place for tea, sandwiches, scones, etc in January. We spent the afternoon shopping and I can finally say I've started my Christmas shopping :thumbsup2 Didn't buy a whole lot (and most of it was for Serenity :cutie: ) but at least I've started. Dropped my mom off at home and shopped for a couple of more hours, then came home to enjoy a roast beef dinner my son and his girlfriend had cooked!

Hi Kathe!!!

Shopping and food... two of my favorites...

We found a tea place up in Ballston Spa... we're going to try it soon... :goodvibes

Hi Michelle! How are you today?

Pretty good... took mom to get her car done today - warranty stuff... she's had the car 3 1/2 years and it only has 8,500 miles on it... I told her she really IS the little old lady who drives on Sunday!!! :rotfl:

Sounds good this time of year, doesn't it? Of course, I'd much rather be enjoying it at the Grand Floridian ;)

I'm enjoying food way too much these days. I'm used to eating Lean Cuisine for dinner  but since I have company now, I cook when I'm home and the kids cook for me when I'm working, so I'm eating WAY more! Sara and I did start back to the gym last week though. Only fitting in once or twice a week right now, but at least it's a start. I had to find something to do once in a while outside this house, besides work, to keep my sanity ;)

My car's going to rust out before I wear anything else out on it!

I was going to compare it to me, my body is wearing out before my mind is, but I'm not so sure lately that is true :upsidedow

JACKIE.....Did you decide against the after Christmas trip ???

Actually, I was thinking about between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but Cheri mentioned she was thinking of taking her nephew the week after Christmas, so that's why I suggested it. I don't really think my sister will want to go, so PRE Christmas is really more likely for me. I don't have ANY vacation time left though (nor any money), so it this point I guess it's all wishful thinking. PEG wants to do a trip to VEGAS! :cool2:

SO....went to the ONC/GYN and got a clean bill of health (all healed up from the last procedure, no signs of anything new going on), so I'm a tad RELEIVED. :)

(ok....I had typed UNC/GYN...I guss that's the NEW tv show "The Gynocologist from U.N.C.L.E.)

Unfortunally, I did have official confirmation of the weight I've put back on, so I need to get cracking on that! :scared: I tried to convience Peg's next door neighbor that she should cook dinner for me every night. I think I asked the wrong person though (because she said no). Maybe I should ask one of my retired neighbors, who might like a little $$ added to their grocery budget in exchange for an extra portion. Golly, maybe I could get them to pack a lunch for me too! I need a MOM!

I'm going to throw my 2cents in, I think it is much more then a "babysitting" situation. He lives in her house for a week at a time now. If there are areas you feel she over steps, that should be between you and Tyler's dad. As should how Dad expects him to behave in his house should be something he should address with Tyler. He needs to respect her as a parent, because that is what she is. Like it or not, she is his stepmother. Which granted, is not quite the same, but what if, God forbid, something happens to you Holly and he has to be with his dad all the time, she would be mom full time. It is not as if she is just the "GF", but is his dad's wife. Yes, dad should handle when he gets home, but does that mean he can "run amuck" until then?

Again, just my thoughts, that maybe since are not the same as the others, I should keep to myself, but I think another view may be something to think about.

I don't disagree with you V....I said something between babysitting and parent. That's a step mom.

Personally, I think all three of you need to agree on one method of discipline and stick to it. Consistency is important for Tyler. And all three of you should be able to administer the discipline at the time it is needed. If you try to train a dog, you can't wait 4 hours until Daddy comes home to react to something he did during the day. It's not going to work. It has to be immediate....action/reaction....to teach right from wrong.

That's my 2 cents. And Tyler is not my child. I just care so I'm voicing my opinion too. Holly, you have to work out whatever you can in your situation. I'm just here to support you in your choices.

you aren't using apples to apples in comparison. I think you think tattletaling is bad too, so really that isn't a bad comment that she gave him is it? And likely she explained the difference between tattle tale and tell when in harms way (if not then it opened the door for you to continue that talk)

Look at the glass as half full instead of half empty and you might find that Tyler is fortunate to have a step-mom :confused3

::yes:: I agree here too.

Can't add any more than the others just to say that the role of stepmom has to be one that is a no win situtation. I know that I could not do it.

And Holly - you're still gonna want him listening to you at 18 that magic clock doesn't stop ticking on that birthday ;) I know you know that and moreover Tyler is going to listen and talk to you because the door is open for him with you. Keep it open then you make a smooth transition from child to parent to friend to friend. I think the adult times we share with our parents (that's all I can comment on so far) has to be some of the best for both sides ::yes::
Thanks everybody, it really helps to hear all different perspectives. That's why I like bringing up things like this. If I were to ask one friend, I'd hear one perspective and would have a hard time being open to other points of view, but when I get to hear a variety of different viewpoints, it helps me try to figure out a way to sort of combine it all into an answer. So thank you all! :grouphug:

Now I feel like I need to apologize to Tyler's dad (and Tyler too). I think I'll just not make a point of bringing it up, but if he mentions that conversation, I'll tell him I spoke before thinking it through. My mouth has a bad habit of getting ahead of my brain. :guilty:

That's another perspective I didn't think of, making sure Tyler feels equal to his sister. Thanks Shannon, that makes sense! :goodvibes
