Way OT- Fixed my casement windows

We have casement windows out front, and the front of the house is stucco. 4 of the 7 had broken crank mechanisms. In one room, it was the only 2 windows in that bedroom. Some people told me the windows would have to be replaced (!!!) This is a nightmare, it could disturb the 18 year old stucco. Plus some of these windows are very large and pricey. They are around 5 feet tall.

I found a company online that sells parts for windows, doors, etc. It is called SWISCO. If you can't figure out what to order, you email them photos and they help you. I ordered my parts, and today repaired 4 windows! I am now ordering for the remaining 3, so they will all be new and working smoothly.

It was SO easy! They had youtube videos of instructions, it took about 5 minutes per window. The parts I needed, for my windows, are about $28 per window, which is not cheap, but way less than replacing those windows. We want to sell house next year, so we knew we had to have these working.... I feel so handy, did not even wait for DH to help me, or for him to do it.

Are they Andersen windows? We have Andersen windows & doors throughout the house and the handles on some of my windows are broken. It's very expensive to replace with Andersen parts.

If I was building a house I would not use the casement windows. I really prefer the regular kind.

We replaced all our casement windows with sliders. Except in the kitchen I put another casement, just because of wanting both sides to open for the air flow. I already feel like one of those cranks is going to go, but we have a 10 yr warranty so I'll keep watching.

I would not choose casement windows, and we did not choose these. this was a "spec" house. The house has casements only in the front, where the stucco is. When it is (REALLY) windy, you can't open the windows. They snap open, too far, and to close them, you have to remove screen, lean out, and guide them in with your hand, which is slightly terrifying from the 2nd floor. (the 1st floor ones are easy, you can go outside and push them).

I have been told to replace them, you risk cracking the stucco.

Not Anderson, they were Patriot I think, whatever the builder had. 18 years ago. So the parts are not readily available, but I found them online, as I said. they carry loads of different sizes and types.

Thank you, thank you SO much! I have exactly the same problem with my Anderson windows. I've been wanting to replace the mechanisms but keep putting it off because I wasn't sure what to do.

I'm going to show my H this website and get these ordered.

Did someone really tell you that the windows needed replacing because the opening mechanism broke? Unbelievable!

Just this morning I woke up and said I needed to get my windows fixed so this was so welcome.
