~Way Back When....How Was YOUR Prom?~

My prom was about 4 years ago. My best friend asked me to go with him which I was very happy about. ;)

I made my own dress, I tye dyed it. I looked like a walking rainbow. My best friend got a general's suit from Goodwill and wore converse shoes.

We had our prom in downtown Portland and it was sooo lame. Everyone was dressed in these fancy outfits and we looked like we had just came off the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour Bus. :rotfl: All the teachers looked at us like we had too much pixie dust.

We were bored so stole everyone's shoes and hid them. Then we dumped all of the food from the prom in a paper bag and took off.

After the prom was much better than the actual prom though. We spent the night and stayed up all night playing the White Stripes music on his guitar. And...the rest probably shouldn't go on a family board... :rolleyes1

In the afternoon, he made me go to CHURCH :earseek: with him because he missed mass in the morning. He was just prayin' for forgiveness I'm sure.. ;)

My prom was in 1989. A Thursday evening.
I wore an above the knee strapless iridescent blue dress. LOL I asked my friend(and neighbor) to go with me, he was my age, but a grade below me, because he was fun and danced and knew eberyone. We had a blast!

Took a limo to the before party and then on to the prom at a very nice banquet facility. (Drank in the limo on the way there :rolleyes1 ) Danced the night away, had a great time..after the prom was over, we took the limo into the city and went to the Hard Rock Cafe..got home around 5 am.

At 8 am, I got picked up by my friends and we drove down the shore(Seaside Heights) for prom weekend, stayed there until Monday morning. We ALL (like the entire senior class plus whomever else came fomr the junior class) pretty much drank the whole weekend.
Drove home Monday morning in time for finals Monday afternoon.

Well, since this wasn't too long ago for me, only about 3 years ago to this upcoming memorial day. First of all, i loved my dress... this slick black cocktail dress that i rented (versachi) which was a definite bonus because i really didn't feel like dragging around a long dress all night. Kept my hair down and for the most part, it was simple makeup. The actual prom was great too, had a great DJ that played mostly classic rock and roll music, and really got people dancing. My date was a great friend of mine throughout high school.

The typical thing here to do in northern NJ is to go "down the shore" after prom for the entire weekend. It is the so-called last hurrah for high school students to celebrate their freedom into adulthood. We ended up staying in an absolute slum on at one of the worst towns in NJ (Seaside Heights), but still had a great time. The only thing that bothered me was that as we pulled up to our hotel, they not only overbooked us, but also there was a fight right across the street, where one kid lay on the ground bleeding. Definitely was not a pretty sight.

Other than the little blurb as we just pulled up, it was a great weekend. Parents usually just turn their head the other way in New Jersey on prom weekend to the point where it's become a norm. As long as you aren't an idiot and drink enough alcohol to kill a full grown moose, you usually aren't bothered. I remember the first night sleeping on the beach just north of Casino Pier (those of you who know Seaside Heights will know where it is) with about 15 of my friends.

I know more traditional parents will find my experience uphauling, but it is a reality in the garden state. Welcome to New Jersey. pirate:

I was a freshman when I went to my first prom. The date was a senior, and we had been "going out". He dumped me a week before prom, but we agreed that he'd still take me since I'd already bought my dress and such. Well, he picked me up, but once we got to the prom he ditched me. Literally, left me sitting at a table all alone while he had a great time with some other chick. Fortunately for me, his buddy felt bad for me and kept me company the rest of the night. Afterwards, my prom date from hell invited his new gf back to the afterparty we were going to, and she rode in our car! Needless to say, I had a horrible time. The second time was my senior year.Had a much better time. It was at a nice hotel, and we actually got a room there. I won't lie - my mom thought I was staying with other girlfriends, but I actually stayed with my bf. When it comes time for my dd to go to prom, she is definitely coming home that night!
