Wave is an overlooked gem

I had the best steak dinner ever at The Wave in Sept 2008. And the service was outstanding; attentive without being pesky. I also threw at them a particular drink order that I sometimes use when I feel like "challenging" the wait staff -- he passed the test, the alcoholic beverage was just as it should be (according to me).

I agree that this is a diamond in the rough.

We have an ADR at Cali Grill on our arrival night. You guys are making me wonder whether we should switch to The Wave, & save a few $. Anyone been to both? How did they compare?

Thanks for the pictures. Now my mouth is watering. That salad looks great and I don't often say that about a salad.

We went to both two weeks ago. I liked The Wave better.

Both have excellent staff. The Cali Grill has a better view. The food is equal if not better at The Wave, IMO. The Wave was not as loud. And The Wave is only one credit on the dining plan.

since it is such a new restaurant, its good to hear some think its a "gem"

I appreciate their concept - but am holding out wondering what the quality is!

The quality of the food is very good.

I'd love to hear (read) more details about the food. What did everyone eat? What can you recommend?

I, too, would love to hear greater detail on these rave Wave reviews!
What did you order and what was your favorite?

Thanks for the comparison. :flower3: We pay OOP, but there's still a price difference. What time did you eat at both? We booked CG for 9:10 hoping it would be quieter. We really don't like loud restaurants. I'll have to talk this over with my DH & we may switch to The Wave. :scratchin

what time is Wishes that night...CG might not be so quiet if Wishes is 9:00 that night. A lot of people swoon over the CG...we're not fans.

We thought the CG was way overpriced for the food -- and we didn't get the view cuz they had the blinds closed while we were there. Service was good. Food was good - just not that much better than the 1 ts restaurants. We really liked the Wave, and thought it was one of the best steaks we've had at WDW...Le Cellier #1, The Wave #2, Then I'd say Kona, Grand Floridian & Cali Grille are all a tie for #3.

Here is a link to the menu for The Wave.

We did lunch there and can vouch for both the Angus Chuck Bacon Cheeseburger and the Reuben Sandwich.

For dessert we had Creamy Indulgence and also Decadent Flavors which are both assorted small desserts served on mini dishes. The Creamy Indulgence was the better I think.

I believe it could be as popular at The Contemporary as Kona Cafe is at The Poly. The Wave is such a pleasant and pretty restaurant in which to enjoy a good meal.

Wishes is at 9:00 that night. It's funny that you prefer LC to CG. We think LC is okay, but not great. We may not like CG at all. ;) We've never eaten at the others you mentioned.

We had lunch at the Wave last week.We did not ADRs but were seated right away.DH and DS had the burgers. They were so large that they could barely finish them. I had the spicey chicken salad. It was very good. The deserts are excellent.DS went with the no sugar added ones. They were yummy and presented beatuifully on the plate. The coffee is one of the best in WDW.

We did a review of The Wave, and I will tell you up front that this was NOT our best experience there. It was lunch from last July, and while the service was still pretty good, the meal was a below the standards we have come to expect from there. Here is a copy of the review (link to the full report in my sig):

After confirming the delivery (they will leave your stuff with bell services, and bell services are more than willing to refrigerate the perishables), we headed out to the Contemporary for a meal I was really excited about: The Wave. This is the newest restaurant in the Disney family, and their philosophy of "green" eating - eco-friendly, local products, many organic items, sustainable fish, etc - ties in nicely with something DW & I believe in. That said, if they didn't put out a good product, they'd close quickly. We thought it would be the best of both worlds for us - great Disney meal with clean products. I know many DISers were down on this place, even when they had never been there. They hated the idea, and I was the first to defend the place. I wanted it to be a really good meal, and after eating this lunch I have to say ---- I need to try it again. DW started with a crab cake that wasn't really memorable - not the best crab, uninspired presentation. It has an over-fishy flavor, which is weird in a crabcake. It was supposed to come on papaya slaw, but I am certain it was jicama. I went for the "Citrus Salad" - grapefruit and avocado. Interesting concept, but it just wasn't wonderful. Boma does this dish much, much better. I ordered a burger for lunch, and the burger itself was pretty good. I had it on a multi-grain roll, and once again - I must defend multi-grain. It came with potato wedges, and I can confirm, they were potato wedges. Nothing else to report there. My beverage was the flight of beer- always a great choice. The beers are an organic brew, and I liked all of the varieties they offered. DW ordered a mixed green salad with chicken, and 9,999 times out of 10,000 one would expect to get grilled chicken breast on a chicken salad. I recall a certain podcast raving about this salad - calling it one of the two best salads in all of WDW. Well, this salad was served with thigh meat - sauteed thigh meat with a presentation that resembled scraps cut off of the bone. When our server finally came back (probably 20 minutes after we got our food), she asked DW if everything was okay. We asked if the salad was served with the wrong protein (it sort of looked like overcooked pork) and she said "no, this comes with thigh meat". It just wasn't edible to DW, and there was no real offer of removing it from the bill. Overall, I was a bit disappointed in this lunch. Nothing tasted as fresh as I had hoped, and maybe I just built it up too much in my head. The burger was good, but it wasn't all that much better than any other burger on property. DW's salad was pretty bad - she would DEFINITELY not order it again. We eventually decided to cancel our dinner ADR, but we kept our breakfast one. Boy are we glad we did!! More on that later.
