How often do you do the weight portion of the WATP tape? I just bought mine last week and have done it twice now. I know you can't do the same weight routine each day cause it overworks the muscles. But i was thinking of doing the walk every day and then the weight with it 2-3 days per week.

Thanx

I think starting out 2-3x a week is great! When I first started with WATP, I couldn't even make it through one tape with the weights. I listened to my body, did what I could, and built up my strength until I could do the weights with every workout--and it really didn't take a long time. Once I had gained enough strength, I never felt like I was overtraining--if my muscles were too sore one day, I'd skip the weights and just do the walk. Eventually, I could do the weights every time with no soreness--in fact, I even increased the weights as I grew stronger. I think what's most important is that you work within your fitness level--do what's comfortable for YOUR body (sometimes I'd look at the women in the videos thinking that I'd never be able to do what they do and get so discouraged--wrong thing to do!). The last thing you want is an injury or to get burned out--give your muscles a chance to recover if they need it! You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll gain some muscle, and you'll love the way your arms look! I really enjoyed my WATP tapes and I saw great results--I bet you will too! Good Luck!:)

Well, I just bought my 1st WATP video last night and, tried it tonight so, I didn't even know about any weights. Good thing she says you don't have to use them. Any one know where to get them or, something else to use in place of them? (I'm in no rush to get them tho, my arms felt the first workout W/O them!) LOL

I bought my weights when i got my tape at target. It said on my tape cover that you could use 2 lb wieghts. I bought the dumbbells myself, I like the grip better than water weights. But you don't have to be in any hurry to get them. Anyplace that seels basic sporting goods should have them. Good luck with it.

I'll be honest and say that while my body seems to like the tape, I don't like Leslie that much. I think i might mute her and put on some music while i do the tape LOL.

Any dumbbell type weight works fine. I have 2.5 pound and 5 pound ones that we've had from other exercise programs we've used (Even back to the Jane Fonda aerobics days, man am I getting old!) Wal Mart sells these too, so you don't have to make a special trip to a sports store. The 2 mile walking strong tape uses the stretchie bands, and those are a little harder to find. At this time of year (new years resolutions), you can probably find them at Walmart/Target, but definitely the sports stores carry them.

Octbride, if you mute Leslie, how will you follow the speed changes? Keeping on the pace is pretty important to getting the best workout. My DS did ask me why she was alway laughing though. So she gets on his nerves too.

Lisa: I think i'd enjoy the workout way more if i mute leslie. Its eay for me to notice the speed changes on the tape, whether I'm listening to her or not. I pay more attention to everybody's limbs on the tape than i do to Leslie's counts. I can easily see everybody pick up speed and slow down, though i can't neccessarily keep up with them yet. Especially when they have both arms and legs going at the same time. I've spent a long time honing my observation skills since I started losing my hearing in grade school. I now have a cochlear implant which has done wonders for my hearing, but it isn't really neccessary for me to concentrate on what i hear during the tape. I do keep a listen for her counts though. But now that I've done the tape 4 times. I just about have it down. I need to concentrate on mastering the moves.

Hi Maureen :wave2:
I think you will easily be able to do the WATP with the mute button. I have been WATPing for a while and I always use the tapes on the bigger tv so I can use the picture in picture and watch something else while walking. I leave Leslie big so I can watch her, but listen to the smaller show. :p I'd say I have been pretty successful with this routine. ::yes::

My WATP came with the walk away belt, it doesn't mention anything about weights. I was thinking of using some dumbbells instead of the belt to change it around a little. For those who use weights, do you use dumbbells, ankle weights or both?

I use dumbbells. The arm movements are pretty simple with the weights. I'll run through them, since your tape probably doesn't talk about them because it uses the belt.

You can lift your arms up and down while walking, and also do bicep curls while walking. During the side steps, she usually has you do lateral raises. Basically start with your arms relaxed in front of you, the lift your elbows out to 90 degrees. To bump that up, you actually stretch your hands out while lifting your elbows. There are also a few times she has you reach out in front of you (usually on kicks). Just be sure to do any weight related arm movements at a pace where you're in control of the weights. If the weights are leading you, it's easy to pull a muscle (usually in your back).

Enjoy!
