How bad is the water on the ship? I am debating on purchasing a case of water to take on the ship, but I don't really want to have to do that. Also, if I do bring water on am I allowed to put it in my checked luggage or do I have to put it in a carry on?

You have to carry it on. Many people post that the water on board is fine. I usually buy the expensive water on board, but it tasted really bad last time.

Yep needs to be on carry-on to prevent leakage with rough handling in checked. Many will make a pitstop at Costco or a grocer to get a large case of water.... then fill their wheeled carry-on's.

My wife rarely drinks water if there is the slightest taste to it. She actually commented that she thinks the water from the taps onboard are actually quite good. We have never bought water and don't think I ever would.

don't buy water. bring a thermal bottle (you know the type...with the straw in it)...fill and enjoy

Also have your stateroom host fill up your Ice bucket. Than when it melts you have very cold good water. I leave a note for him/her to fill it up every night. You can get it done twice a day but I like once a day better give the ice time to melt.

The first cruise we took in 2011 I thought the water was fine. Our five cruises since then, I haven't liked the taste. Don't know if they did something different or my tastes just changed. We typically purchase the case through the web and have it waiting in our room. It is marginally more expensive, but I like the convenience of not having to transport.

Really, really picky about water.....can't drink it at the parks.
Ship's water is fine. Reverse osmosis.....the same thing we have at home

The people who often don't like the water on the ship don't like it because it's RO (as noted above) and it doesn't have any taste. Most water has a taste due to minerals. RO has nothing. It's pure pure pure so it literally has zero taste.

I did not think that it was bad tasting, but it caused me to swell. The 2nd week of our cruise, I drank exclusively bottled water and the swelling went down. I think that if you are not sensitive to salts, you will be fine. Like I said, the water taste was fine, but I was thankful we carried on 48 bottles of water for 2 weeks. They were also handy on long excursions. We each brought a tumbler and straw for onboard, but having the bottled water in the ports was great. I did not book a single DCL excursion, we did them on our own...so no water was provided.

Make sure you wash your ice bucket first. I've seen all sorts of things stored in ice buckets in my years of traveling. Some of those things are *not* what I would want in contact with my drinking water.

There is no need to lug a case of water with you when you go cruising. The tap water on cruise ships is completely safe and drinkable, having been through rigorous filtration and testing, all of which are overseen by U.S. and European heath agencies. While some cruisers claim that the tap water in restaurants and bars tastes different from what comes out of the cabin bathroom, it is all, in fact, the same water.

Or you can get ice on deck at the drink fountain stations. I would fill my water bottle up with the ice, go back to the stateroom and continually fill it with water until all of the ice finally melted. This was great when we were in the Med in 2013 and it was hitting 42 Celsius in Turkey. After being out all day in that, I probably drank 2-3 bottles of totally ice cold water one after the other.

No guarantee you are going to get the same ice bucket. Your stateroom host will take a few back at a time to save time

And this, in itself, is why I wouldn't ever dream of drinking the melt from an ice bucket.
