Water rides in January?

We are heading to US/IOA and WDW January 5-12. My question is are there any rides at US/IOA that are too wet to ride in January? Or is the weather not that cold? We have never been before, and am not sure about the weather or the nature of the rides! Thanks for your input!

We are going in January too. I think last January was pretty chilly in Orlando. Maybe this year it will be warm!

I'm hoping the same thing, Patty!

This past January was a rare one I understand. There was one day when the heat of the day didn't hit 50 degrees! We're going down from 12/31 to 1/7 and hopefully we'll get the range Orlando USUALLY has which is 70s during the day. Here's hoping!

You can ride any water ride you want. The New Hampshire people ride them in January just to cool off from the warm 50 degree day.
We orlando people will look at you like you were nuts but we are acclimated to the weather and for us a 50 degree day is cold. Keep one thing in mind, a breeze in Orlando on a 50 degree day will make you think wintery thoughts.:smooth:

LOL! Are you kidding? My favorite thing about Naples, Fl was the 80 degree ocean water.

Hopefully it'll be warm enough to do the water rides. FYI, when we went on a cooler than 70 day some of the water effects at some of the kids rides and play areas didn't work or seemed to be at lower pressure. We though things were broken until we went back the next day (80's) and everything was working.

1) Bilge Rat Barges: you will get wet possibly soaked. When i say soaked i mean even the contents of the billfold in your pocket will be dripping.

2) Ripsaw Falls: You will get frontal wet and possibly one side wet to dripping wet.

3) Jurassic Park River Adventure: You will get a face full in the front two rows and some wet on the sides in all rows. HINT: Sit behind tall large people to block the water.

4) The Talking Fountain: He can squirt water and he can soak an isolated area of your clothing.

5) Camp Jurassic: The water cannon area will drench you if you stay and play. You can also get wet passing thru as there are no neutrals when it comes to water cannons. :D

If it is 50 to 60 out and you are going to ride Bilge Rats please e-mail me so i can take the day off of work to come see that. :smooth:

thanks for all of your replies.. we will keep your advice in mind MIB999999! Here's hoping for warm weather!

MIB999999, you reminded me of my trip this past May!!
I went on Bilge Barges for the first time this year. Saw everybody putting their stuff in the plastic-covered holder in the middle. Put my digital camera in my fanny pack in there.
HOWEVER, I forgot about my wallet! Didn't realize it was still in my back pocket until the ride was almost over and my backside was dripping wet! The AMEX travelers checks were one big lump of paper!! We had to very carefully peel them apart back at the hotel and lay them out by the A/C unit all night to dry them out.
Make sure you water proof everything on the Bilge!!!

I know this is an old thread, but it's exactly the information I was looking for! Jaws isn't mentioned though, how does it rate on the wetness factor? Any other rides? Thanks!

The Dark Marauder posted how wet you can become on rides.
it was posted in the thread about concern of water rides about two weeks ago.

if you check that thread, it is up to date.

btw, re: JP water ride, i did not find that to be valid for what was in the 2001 thread you brought up.

You don't really get wet on Jaws at all. Unless you happen to be sitting in a spot that gets some splashing. I have ridden that ride many times, and gotten a little wet once or twice. Riding water rides in January for me...NO WAY...BRRR...we rode on them in March and FROZE!!!!

Just to add to the others' comments regarding Popeye / Bilge Rat Barges: Just assume that you will be as soaked as if you simply jumped into the deep end at a swimming pool. There is a small chance it will be a little less than that, but better safe than sorry.

I looked at his post and I didn't think it really addressed how wet you will get, more whether you will be cold from water rides in Jan. (but maybe I didn't see the correct post).

What about the JP water ride... what part is not valid? Do you actually get more wet, less wet? Thanks!

Too cold to do water rides in Orlando in June Brrrr.

I really only want to go on 2 of the "water" rides, Jaws and Jurassic Park. I've never been, so I'm trying to get an idea of how wet we can expect to get. Does anyone know how Jurassic Park compares to Slash Mountain in terms of how wet you may get. We've been on Splash Mountain before during a cold week in December and were fine. I heard they turn the water down or something in the colder weather for Splash Mountain though. Thanks again!

We are going to brave the weather and will be at Univeral 1/13-17. With my daughter now in school we have to go when she has long vacation time. Christmas time is too expensive and her school does not have spring break beyond the Friday and Monday after EAster. She will miss one day of school but is out Monday and Tuesday. Got the room booked at HRH at stay and play rate but may get a AP if I can get a better rate then $191.20 night. I know it is still early and rates have not been posted online yet.

As long as someone tall is in front of you, you will not get soaked. But if you are in the front you will get soaked. (In winter they turn off the water cannons for Splash Mountain.)
