Since we go in Feb we have yet to visit one of the Disney water parks. Could someone please offer any tips for both?

Thanks

My advice is first check and see if the parks are open. Lots of times they're closed that time of year.

If they're open the next thing to do is decide if you're looking for slides and thrills (Blizzard Beach,) or looking to relax and undwind (Typhoon Lagoon.) Are you going with children? If so, what are their ages?

water shoes, the ground and the bottom of the pools can be rough.

We were there this past February...ages...62,58,55,40,36,9,8, and 6. Get there early...find your "spot" , take your own towels, try to be close to the lockers....maybe in the middle of the park (Blizzard Beach was open)...Take water shoes....and sunscreen....The kids loved it...and..yes...we "Older folks" did, too... :cool1: :sunny: :rotfl2:

In feb 1 park will be open, they only have 1 open at a time while they work on maintance at the other from Dec through Feb normally.

The water shoes are a must.

Plan to get there early. Look at a map of the park ahead of time and decide where you will be spending your time, try to find a bench near that.

Get a refillable mug when you arrive, there are lots of places to fill it throughout the park and they have sinks to wash it out before getting refills. Usually we just share a mug and bring our own bottled water becuase I can't stand the tap water in Orlando.

Do the biggest thrills first and early so you can do them again if you want before it gets crowded. At TL the water coasters are great, at BB the family raft ride and the high slides are the ones with the longest lines early.

Even in Feb don't forget sunscreen because you can still get some nasty burns in FL.

Don't forget your own towels.

I was wondering what the temperature of the water is. Over at the resort board, everyone that has just gotten back from DW is complaining about the temperature of the pools at the resorts. They say disney no longer heats them very well!! We are going this week end and next week and were planning on using resort pools, hot tubs and water parks!!! :confused3

What kind of water shoes? Are Teva sandals allowes on the slides? I need something with more support than the slip-on style or I will not be able to deal with the concrete paths all day. Getting old :rolleyes1

I noiced that you and rlovew made a point of taking your own towels. Is this to help save your chair with a more personalized towel that doesn't look like all the ones that you can use of the park's? I know they have their own towels that you can use at the park.

We are going and would like to reserve a chair, so we will get there early, but of course we will want to ride the slides and use the pool too. Is is easy to return to your chair only to find your stuff missing or your chair taken?

You have to pay to rent towels, and they aren't very good.

When you put your towel on a chair or chaise, remember where it is. Try to save chairs near a landmark so you don't forget where to find the towels.

We just did TL on last Friday and the water temp was 85 degrees. The outside temp was high of 86 that day. However, I thought the water would feel hot. Quite the oposite. The water was really nice, actually warmer than the air because of the breeze. If you got out, you could sit in the sun to warm, but it was still cool. Kind of weird. We stayed at POFQ and the pool temp was FREEZING!!! Even on the hottest day, we FROZE! Opted for the hot tub (with everyone else) instead. BTW, we loved Typhoon Lagoon, Shark Reef is a must. The only thing I didn't like was the Lazy River, which I re-named the "Dirty River." Because of all the beautiful flowers and trees, which provide much needed shade, the water was always full of leaves and flowers. I guess it's not a bad trade off for the shade, but I don't like swimming and floating around in a dirty pool.

Don't know if this is the kind of tip you want, but my DD wished someone had told her. We went to BB 2 years ago and my DH, DS, & DD rode Summitt Plummett. My DD did not keep her legs crossed coming down the slide and got an instant enema. Other tips: We purchased 1 refillable mug for all of us. I think it was about $10 but saved money all day. We also took our own snacks & towels. We rented a locker to keep clothes, snacks, money, etc. in. The family raft ride was the best! :Pinkbounc

I heartily agree: water shoes, own beach towels and sunscreen! Very important! We also bring a soft cooler with water/sandwiches/snacks and just buy soda and ice cream. My own tip to add to the mix : bring a disposable waterproof camera. There are great pictures to be taken (and I have plenty) but I've always been afraid of ruining my own camera. The disposables can take really great outside / sunny pictures! Have never had anyone trifle with my stuff, everything has always been right where I left it. But then, I've never left anything valuable either. We leave most valuables in the car and get a locker for the car keys and "more" money. We just carry a few dollars in a waterproof container for the soda and ice cream.

OK, now I will be thinking of that when I visit Typhoon Lagoon later this year. I'm sure she was not the only one to get an "instant enema." Hope Disney keeps up with the chemicals.

Do water shoes come in size 13?

Walmart carries all sizes, check as soon as they carry them, because they are very popular.

Any recomendations for a waterproof container / wallet for our tickets /cash?

Ok, this might be a REALLY dumb question - but what are water shoes?

Rubber soled slippers you can wear in the water. We don't wear water shoes, but we swim alot and go barefoot alot, so our feet are not as tender as some folk's might be.
