Water Parks Question

I'm a non swimmer, and really rather nervous in Pools. :worried:

I plucked up the courage last year to try Castaway Creek, and really enjoyed the experience. So far DS(9) has been quite content to play in the wave pool, and isn't aware of the other slides that are in Typhoon Lagoon. However, I'm not sure that I can continue to keep them a 'secret' during our visit next year.

My question is - do you need to be a swimmer to enjoy the slides? Is the pool that you splash into at the end quite deep? or can you enter it and manage to stay upright.

They will not be a problem for DS - he can swim like a fish !! And i have to admit I feel quite guilty  that he is missing out on something I'm sure he would love, because of my fears.

Yes most of the slides you can emerge and stay upright. just be aware when the end is coming and sit up and put your feet down. I am very short and did not go under on ANY of the slides, tube or body. If you do slip or something and go under slightly the water is only between 3 and 4 feet just stand up!

How in the world did your son NOT notice any of the slides? You must not have any problems hiding his Christmas presents!

I think your son would love the slides. The pools at the end of the slipes are not deep at all. I think they are in the range to 3 1/2 to 4 feet deep. As an adult you can easily stand up after you splash into the pool. Enjoy!!!!

Not only are the exits shallow, but there is always a lifeguard on duty at each exit area. Some of the more intense slides will not allow a departure until the lifeguard at the bottom signals that it is clear to send the next guest down the slide.

you might consider trying BB this trip. The kid's area (Ski Patrol) is much larger and has more for older kids then TL. They have kid-sized slides, a zipline, "ice-bergs", and I can't remember what else. The family raft ride, you stay in the raft for the entire ride, is longer and they also have a lazy river and wave pool. The water isn't very deep in the kid's area and you can sit on the side and watch him play without having to get in yourself.

Thank you - your comments have been very reassuring :thumbsup2

I think I'll 'take the plunge' next year. Unfortunately, August seems soooo far away at the moment.

Since your trip is not until August, have you considered taking swimming lessons? Although what everyone has said is true, it might make you feel a little more secure.

The only thing I'd add to this is that all of the water slides at TL have a current that pushes you towards the exit. My DD8 was actually more intimated by the wave pool at TL, than the slides. The strength of the waves in the shallow area can be deceiving!
