I have not been to a water park for several years. We plan to go this summer due to the free water parks on arrival day offer. Will we need water shoes or are bare feet ok? It will be August so it will be HOT so I am thinking we need something on our feet so we don’t burn them on the pavement but maybe not. Thoughts?

We visit in Aug and never used water shoes but it would be easier in the feet with them as @Dave006 is correct and the ground can get quite hot.

we ALWAYS take our water shoes. especially for soft kids feet. The concrete is VERY hot and rocks can be sharp.

I seriously burned the bottoms of my feet at typhoon lagoon one time. The aqua shoes you can get on Amazon for cheap are expensive in the water park gift shop.

We never use water shoes. Some of the paths between rides are hot mainly near where the food is. There is sand so if needed you can step off the path and walk on the sand. Personally maybe once or twice I did this but for the most part your feet are wet from the rides and the paths close to the rides are shaded.

Same, i was burning the soles and trying to dash from one wet bit to another.
The store at Blizzard Beach sells them if you forget.

It is a personal choice. We wear what I call water socks, like photo above. Very lightweight and tight (less sand).

Walkways are often very hot, some surfaces in water are rough and we'd never go barefoot in bathrooms.

We do not do the big slides that don't allow so never had a problem.

No brainer. Wear the water shoes. Also makes it easier to run in a restroom, because I won’t go in barefoot. The only slides we had to remove them for at blizzard beach were the two steep ones (slush gusher and summit plummet). Every time we wear them we have multiple people asking where we bought them, etc bc they are burning their feet.

Do all body slides require you to remove water shoes?
At blizzard beach it’s only slush gusher and summit plummet. Can’t remember offhand about typhoon, but it isn’t a drastic number.

I wear them too. But I buy cheap ones because I always lose at least one in the lazy river!

Yes, and you don't have to on tube slides - however, I'll share an experience. I was on a twisty slide at Blizard Beach, in a tube, and kept my water shoes on. Just after starting, my foot hit the fiberglass wall of the tube and since I had traction, I spun around. It hurt and my ankle was sore - not like a sprain or anything, but definitely tender. On those type of slides I would advise holding them or keep your legs folded inside the tube (I do have pretyt long legs). Anyway, I have been skipping them since that little incident, but I do get it - the pavement can be HOT.

Thank you all for your responses! I ordered some water shoes off of Amazon. Looking forward to going to the water park with my granddaughter:)!

Are Tevas allowed as water shoes? They are basically plastic and Velcro. What about regular Crocs with the strap you can flip around back?

I’d hate to shrewd my feet then have a week of park walking.
