Water park question

I am sure this question has been asked a million times but here goes again
We have never been to a water park at Disney

If you had to choose one water park with kids age 10 & 8 that do not like the really big slides, which would you choose? They can both swim but one is a little more timid about swimming in water where they can't touch the bottom then the other.

We are going in August. Is it imperative that we get this first thing in the morning and do they close due to capacity in the summer?

Thanks for any help

We enjoy both of the parks. TL IMHO is more slides, other than the wave pool (and the lazy river & the shark reef). BB has more float rides that I think the kids would enjoy more. Come to think about it....I would love to see the experts answer this!!

Thanks L107Angel

I was also just wondering if TL will be more popular this year because of the new Gush and Gusher (is that the name)

I'd recommend Typhoon Lagoon. It has the bigger and best wave pool which kids seem to love, my 8 y/o neice played in it for several hours last July. You can stand way out in the deep part for the big waves, but the little ones can stand near the end and the waves are still allot of fun. Gradual entry of coure, so it's not deep at the beginning.

It also has Shark Reef. Where you can swim through a little pool with all kinds of fish, including of course, as the name implies, sharks. They're not big. My 12 y/o nephew loved it, as did my brother and SIL!!! Go there first thing to avoid a line. First thing in the morning it's really nice as they let you take your time going slowly and you'll probably be able to do it several times if you want. I'll bet your 10 y/o especially will like it. You do "snorkle" through, so if he'd like to do it he could practice before hand!!!

I think the bigger and faster slides are at Blizzard Beach, but that's not what you care for, so the slides at Typhoon Lagoon are still of course really nice.

A nice lazy river too. And personally, I like the atmosphere better. Kind of tropical and relaxing.

I imagine TL might get more crowded because of the new ride, that's just my opinion, but if you get there a little before opening, I would think you could "stake out" a very nice spot near the wave pool and be fine. We usually do Shark Reef and slides first when the lines are shorter and then spend the rest of the time in the lazy river and wave pool.

Actually, when my youngest was a teen-ager and didn't care to do Shark Reef anymore, we would head over to Blizzard Beach first and he and DH would do slides and then we'd head over to Typhoon Lagoon for the wave pool.

Another vote for Typhoon Lagoon - it's our favorite water park!

The wave pool is a lot of fun, and the more timid children can stay in the very shallow areas and still have fun. But the waves are powerful, so make sure you let them know they should not go out farther than waist deep until they've been through a couple of the waves (they get pretty high on your body).

Also, if the kids don't want to swim through the shark reef, they can go to the underwater viewing area, and look through portholes at the fish. The shark reef is water over your head, so the kids might not want to do that, but they can still enjoy the fish.

Get there between 30 and 45 mins before opening, stake out a place for the day, and enjoy!!

I'm also a Typhoon Lagoon fan, though I haven't been to Blizzard in 6 years.
We went to TL last year (my son is 12) and had a blast. The Lazy river is wonderful. I think the slides are moderate in level and a lot of fun.
And that wave pool is my son's absolute favorite.

TL has more trees than BB so its shadier, which being a fair skinned Irish/German girl is good for me. :)

We can't wait to try out the new Crusher-Gusher slide. :D I plan to be there next Wednesday morning.

I prefer Blizzard Beach... :sunny: ...I like Teamboat Springs, its rele good for kids and adults of all ages! It's a raft ride but its not too intense

BLizzard Beach does have a wave pool, it's nothing compared to Typhoon Lagoon's though.

It also holds more smaller slides for the younger kids, in case they don't like the bigger ones

Thanks everyone

As appealing as Typhool Lagoon sounds to me, I think that BB will be better for our kids since they won't even go on the slide at Stormalong bay. I think the Ski Patrol area would be great for them.

How deep is shark reef? and what about the entry pools at the end of the water slides, how deep are those? How deep is the lazy river,i like to tell them if they fell out that all they have to do is stand tall! My youngest are 50 inches tall, and not the greatest swimmers, can they wear life vests?

The Shark Reef is about 10 feet deep. The beginning and end areas have a shelf that is maybe 2 feet deep. They do offer life vests for that attraction.

The lazy river is 3 or so feet deep.

The catch pools and the end of the slides are maybe 3 feet for body slides and less for raft slides.
