Water Park Question

I will be at WDW in April with my two dd's 6 & 8 Ys old. We are thinking of trying a water park and would like advice.

Both girls are strong swimmers but my oldest dosen't like water in her face any more than necessary and I don't know how much she will enjoy the bigger slides. She is about 49-50 inches and I noticed the "kiddie" areas have a max of 48". This would probably be a perfect area for her and her sister (about 45 inches) but I wonder if she will be to big. They both follow rules and I know they would be respectful and helpful to the younger ones (not rough or pushy). It will just be the 3 of us this trip so splitting up isn't an option. DH dosen't like water parks so this is a good opportunity for us to try one without excluding him!

Any other suggestions or is one water park better than another for this "in between age"? They are sort of to big for the toddler area but to small for the bigger slides.

We will all be able to enjoy the lazy rivers and the family raft rides but I know my younger girl will love the age appropriate slides - hoping the older dd can to.

If the consensus is that there isn't that much they both can enjoy we will probably just stick to the resort pool and not waste an admission. We all have AP's but no plus optoins.

TIA
TJ

I would go to typhoon lagon instead of blizard beach. bb has a lot of really big slides while typhoon slides are not to bad and your children shoud enjoy them. The wave pool at typhoon has some really huge waves that your youg children might not like too much if they don't like to get plasked in the face but if they dont go out too far it should be ok. The lazy river is a good escape from the noise of the rest of the park your just float around on tubes around the whole park. And the shark reef is cool too. They give you snorkels and you all enter this lagoon with tropical fish and coral. I'm sure you will all enjoy this typhoon lagoon.

I've only been to Blizzard Beach, so I can only comment about that park. My 7 yo dd and I had a great time there. We avoided the huge slides, but there was plenty to do for the day. There's an area for older kids with pretend glaciers that you can walk over using ropes. Even my water shy 5 yo wanted to do this! She managed okay - but was really too short to reach the ropes above her.

My 7 yo is a bit of a dare devil (likes Rockin' Rollercoaster!). I wondered how she'd do with the water slides though, because she's had some water issues in the past as well. She actually loved the water park and stayed with me until closing. My 5 yo, on the other hand, decided to go back to the room with her dad (who doesn't like water parks) after 2 or 3 hours.

There's a nice family raft ride and the lazy river at BB also. There are some other tube rides or slides on a mat that are not too wild. There's also a nice wave pool, but if I'm not mistaken, the waves aren't nearly as big.

Thanks to both
Laura - my 8yo sounds like your 7yo, loves RnRc and really loved TOT and primeval whirl but I just can't see her doing a water slide, I guess we shall see about that! Leaning toward BB but I can't find to much info on it esp the "ski patrol part". My 6yo is tiny but has to keep up so it should be interesting.

Hi,

I can't comment on BB because we have only been to TL (twice). However, we are going to try BB this year. My DDs are 7 and 10. My 7 yr. old is a daredevil and I am worried about the big waves at TL.

The ski patrol area, I have been told, is for 6 to 12 yr. olds. I think my kids will really enjoy that part. They also like tube rides.

My concerns about BB are that there may not be enough shade for my DH. He may end up going back to hotel. He's not a water person.

If you check out www.wdisneyw.co.uk.com. I'm not sure this is the address, do a search of WDW UK and you may find it. They have maps of both parks on their website.

Hope this helps.

Anna

I would recommend BB. although BB does have some slides you will not use I still think it is more kid friendly than TL. The large wave pool in TL is just too much for small kids when the big waves are on. BBs Teamboat spring family raft ride is great for all ages. The ski lift will take you to the top of the slides so the little ones don't have to make any big climbs. The family raft at TL is a joke compared to BB. We enjoy both parks but BB gets my vote especially for small to preteen kids.

On our next trip I was thinking of taking DS to one of the water parks. DH wants to do the Richard Petty thing and won't be going us. What do you do about keeping an eye on them?
Do you come down first so that you are at the bottom when your child comes down? Is there a CM at the tops of the slides so that when you go down, your child can come down but knows what to do? I haven't been to a water park since I was a teen and I didn't have this issue.

Well, it does depend on the slide, the age, and ability of your child but a lot of the ones at BB are side by side so you can go at the same time and come out within seconds of each other. But there are CMs top and bottom to watch. My DD is a strong swimmer and was there on her 8th BD. Most of the time we take turns going first if we are on a single slide.
