We have been planning an extended family trip to WDW for December 15-23, 2017. Now that Disney has postponed the premiere of Star Wars Episode VIII until December 15, how should we plan on seeing the film while we are in Orlando? Would it be totally awesome to see it on-site on the night it opens?

You can go to the AMC theater in Disney Springs. Buy your tickets on the day they are released - they'll sell out quickly.

I'm not a "see movies in a huge crowd" person so it sounds awful to me. I'm also a person who doesn't feel that movies are social time so I'd rather see them on my own, so seeing a movie during a family trip also sounds awful to me. (I didn't like movie dates, for instance...the only reason I saw 7 in the theater with family is because I wanted to see it big and I wanted to be there for ds's first theater-SW and, as it turns out, heartbreak).

You'll have to find out how your own family members feel.

For our families, watching a film in the company of a bunch of fans is the ideal viewing situation. It looks like when Force Awakens came out, Disney threw an after-hours party at Hollywood Studios. Think something similar might happen for the second film?

If it does happen, plan on booking the Premiere Party as soon as it becomes available. It sold out quickly.

A red carpet and characters welcomed all the guests at AMC. Dedicated buses ran from AMC to the party. There are reviews of the Premiere party in the SW Launch Bay thread.

We saw New Hope at the AMC Dine-In theater in Disney Springs about 10 days after the movie opened. It was really nice as you can reserve your seats in advance (I reserved about 2-3 weeks in advance as soon as the times were released for our day) and you can order food and beverages which are delivered directly to your seat.

I think the only way you'll get to see it onsite is to do the opening night event party if they decide to do it again & like another poster said, you'll have to book it right when it is announced because it sold out quickly. We were there for VII & so many people were turned away who hadn't prepurchased tickets but expected to be able to buy at the window. Although pricey & could have been coordinated far better, the event was a lot of fun & I would recommend it.

Wait, what? New Hope?
