With the news now reporting even more wide spread fires in the LA area I'm wondering if any of the ABD trips there are being affected.

Of course they are. Lowes Hotel and Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame at The Chinese Theater are in LOS-Q1127, which is in Evacuation Order Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to LEAVE NOW. The area is lawfully closed to public access.

This is the official updated map https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/2025/1/8/sunset-fire

Thanks for that link.

We are supposed tot be on the DL/So Cal ABD trip starting this Sunday. Any guess on our chances? I haven't heard from ABD yet

I'll be interested to hear what happens to your ABD. My guess is that they will change hotels for the first two nights.

Called them. No decision made yet as to if it’s on or not. They will email and or call us to let us know. They are monitoring things there. So…we will see. The vacationista wasn’t aware that the Loews Hotel was in an evacuation zone.

I would say you are good to go. The Sunset fire evacuation's have been or will be lifted in the next few hours and the fire is contained. Im in Ireland and following the fire updates online in real time.

I am also on the trip this Sunday. I called and was told it is still a go. As stated previously they will call us with any changes. There is also a chance that they will change accommodations wrt Loews.

The Sunset fire is contained and no longer spreading and evacuations canceled. But who knows how much damage was done in the areas the ABD visits. They'll definitely need to re-assess before they can safely assure a trip can go there. So sorry your ABD got canceled. :(

As someone who is living thru this right now - conditions change almost hourly as to how much wind and when and from where. I get safety alerts and when those can get through it is a stream of updates. High Wind warnings change to Red Flag (more serious) just half an hour later, multiple times a day. The end times for the high dangerous winds are also jumping all around, now it is not until Monday or Tuesday of next week.

No power since Tuesday night and no idea when it will be back or for how long. Maybe by sometime middle of next week? Most of my town is without power and we are about 25 miles west of the Palisades fire zone in no immediate danger. So why no power? Because the strong winds continue to blow here and they can’t chance the winds starting another one over here. And the new tonight Kenneth fire is more of a risk to us because it’s father north from the ocean and more brush/fuel as it is the same mountain range all the way to the hills behind us with not a lot in between.

Cell coverage is spotty, I had nothing on Tuesday night and Wednesday it has been better today and I can even now risk checking for news updates a couple of times a day. But gotta save my battery.

So while disappointing to those on the cancelled trip,i agree with @hardcorestitch - it is best for us out here to not travel right now and you ain’t want that risk of having to possibly evacuate a hotel on your radar.

One last musing - without the light pollution, the sky is so beautiful at night - so many stars we don’t otherwise get to see. Amazing!
