Watching fireworks from the Polynesian

Going on our first trip to the Polynesian in January, and I was told the beach was always packed with people watching the fireworks. Is there some sort of gate or protection from the lake? Given the recent events, I can't imagine this is going to be a recommended spot now.

If I had small children, knowing what I know now, I'd avoid that area, so curious to see how crowded it will get going forward. Also wondering how Disney will handle these beach areas going forward.

I have a trip coming up in December and although I have a lake view DVC, I don't think I can see anything unless I get the requested upper floor. My plan was to go down to the beach to see the fireworks if I don't have an upper floor - where else in the resort can you see the fireworks if not the beach?

Near the pool and/ or ceremonial house. They are directly across from the castle.

Gators are everywhere in Florida. If you want to avoid gators, do not go to Disney.
A bit of an overreaction to the scenario. Not really good advice. Thank you Dreamin192. First trip to the Poly, and was wondering about the pool as an option.

There is a grassy area between the Great Ceremonial hall and the pool. You can stand there and see the entire fireworks and I believe music is piped in. You can also sit towards the back of the sand and will be perfectly safe. You only need to worry if you are right on the shoreline which I would never suggest Disney or not as it is an unknown body of water.

Thank you. Nothing more scary than what that family has endured. I guess being told to not come to Florida is the advice I am taking away from this thread. I guess I'm going to go cancel the trip.

We stayed at Poly last year and watched them from between the pool and great ceremonial house, like I mentioned above. The music is/was piped in on the side of the pool nearest the lagoon only. There are/were speakers on the path around the pool though and did stand on the path once to watch. Hope you have a great trip!

The beach area is very wide from waters edge to the walkway. There is no reason you can not stand on the beach and watch the fireworks away from the waters edge. I cringe every time I see people allowing their children to wade into the water. No swimming means no entry.

People stay in the Expensive Bungalows and go into the Lagoon.

Seems unwise.

You can always watch from the transportation dock for the resort motor launches to / from the MK and the GF. It tends to be cooler over the water.

First time I saw fireworks on the Poly beach it was incredible.

Now they have built bungalows over much of the beach space, so it is way less incredible. We had better views by the pool than on the beach, and the music was super low and difficult to hear. I would think now, with the more open lobby, the Great Ceremonial House itself might offer pretty nice views. (I could also be way off on this, as I have not checked myself)
