I checked my Capital One account online last night and had a $60 charge from Privacy Guard. I emailed them and they said that it was the annual fee for my membership with them, well, I'm not a member!  I don't know how they charged my card, or whatever, but I finally convinced them that I am not a member, I don't owe them a dime, and I want that charge taken off of my card. Anyway, it might be a good idea to check your accounts.

I have found several instances like this over the past year. I contact the company that charged those costs, like you did, and find out why. If I get one whiff of trouble I just say "thanks, I'll take care of it". Then I call the CC company and have them remove the charge. I won't let that stuff annoy me. The CC companies have much more leverage than I do so I let them handle it.
