Watch when you cancel and rebook with AVIS

I watch my rental rates carefully. Last week my one-way rate went down so I cancelled and rebooked. I even called Avis and confirmed my old one was cancelled. Today I went to my local Avis office to pick up a car (driving it one-way to the airport in the morning). The guy got the paperwork ready and as I was getting ready to sign I noticed the rate was wrong. He said it was correct, I asked if he had correct reservation number and showed him my printed paperwork with rate/confirmation number. He was really nasty and rude so I figured I'd come home and call a CSR. This was after he asked if I had half an hour for $20. The car was filthy and had scratches (they also wanted me to sign without inspecting car). I took car as Avis is only rental location in my small town. So I go home call CSR. She was great, said it was old reservation and she could correct price---wrong again. The guy had hand filled in some information. She said I'd have trouble returning car and said I needed to go back. So off I go. I go in (I took my teenage son so I wouldn't yell the guy was that bad) and he said in a loud voice he didn't need to fix they did it that way all the time and I DON"T CARE WHAT CSR TOLD YOU...they are in Tijuana and don't know anything! I just turned and walked out. I called CSR from parking lot. I was talking to the lady and the guy walks out and starts shoving papers at me saying see we fill out this way by hand all the time. I said I am on phone with CSR and he talked to her rudely and said you don't know what screen to look at. The lady talked to me again and said to call in tomorrow and theyd adjust rate. I was shaking really bad cause this guy was off---his badge said operations manager.

So after I was home I called the airport location I'm returning car to and said will I have trouble with this had written in (car number/mileage, etc) Guy was great...said no he asked for number, fixed that and the amount! :)

I wrote huge complaint to Avis.

But moral is to make sure you print copy of reservation and make sure you have it handy and check rate! I still don't know how he pulled up a cancelled reservation BUT both CSR people said the system showed cancelled!
