Watch those rates!

It's surprising how much the prices can fluctuate day to day.

I had booked a reservation at the Beach Club for three nights and at first with the Passholder Discount the rate on the two weekend nights was $149 more each than the one week night which of course didn't surprise me as weekends are standardly more.

Yesterday, I was playing around online trying to add another night at the front and it wasn't available but for some reason the rate for the two weekend nights had dropped by $165 per night. (actually $15 lower than the week night rate for some reason???) So I cancelled and rebooked. Saved nearly $400 with tax all together

This morning I see that they now have an additional day I wanted to add at the front of the trip available, but when I tried to modify the reservation it wanted to raise the weekend rates back up to the higher rate so was raising my whole reservation by over $800.

I didn't want to lose the room that had come available by waiting on the phone to modify so tried to book the room for the first night as a stand alone reservation, but it wouldn't let me ( (I wonder if my account is flagged for booking and cancelling a few times this past week for various hotels and rates...oops).

Anyways, when I called the lady had the same issue that it wanted to raise the cost way more than the added night, but then she went in a different way she was able to keep the low weekend rate and add the extra week day.

Anyways, I'm happy and getting excited. We are trying out the Beach Club for the first time for the first half of our trip and ending back at the Grand Floridian for the second half with the RPC (main building) club level at a good rate as well.

I still need to find a room for our arrival day since Beach Club is still currently full that day. This is an unplanned bonus trip (that had turned into a second big trip) for us after our big summer trip two weeks ago because of the Star Wars preview for passholders, which is why I'm guessing it's hard to find rooms.

Anyways, pays to check rates periodically. You never know what they are going to do.

I agree! I have been checking everyday too for my upcoming reservations. (Split stay next week at Beach Club and Polynesian and a 4 night stay in December at Wilderness Lodge.)
I noticed a drop in the AP discount price last week, called and saved $800!!
It’s worth keeping an eye on it!

It's a common and long-running issue with AP rates. (and I thought well known but evidently not)
The weekend rates will alternate between rack rate and discounted rate at random.
You always have to check the detailed breakdown when checking out. I always wait till they are showing discounted to check out.
There was/is a thread that tracks when they are coming up discounted but I can't find it now

Yes that’s true. I am surprised though that the discounted rate on the weekend ended up being even less than the discounted rate for the week day.

When I booked things were filling very fast with little availability anywhere because of the AP Star Wars preview which is one reason I went ahead and paid the higher rate. I’m guessing some booked and then ended up changing their mind on coming for it or stay elsewhere.

I still can’t find a room in the Boardwalk area anywhere for our arrival day including even the Swan and Dolphin.

Also this is our first year with an AP and so I’ve never paid much attention to passholder rates before.

I’m sure there is always somebody new as well that can benefit from the info.
