The government's decision to squash the transaction has far-reaching implications for US Airways, whose stock price is expected to remain under pressure. The Arlington, Va.-based airline has said it cannot survive over the long haul because it is neither a low-fare carrier nor a big airline.

US Airways, which pays one of the industry's highest costs per seat mile, lost $269 million in 2000. It further racked up a $179 million loss through the first six months ended June 30.

On Friday, US Airways said it soon plans to publicly detail its strategy moving forward. That may include selling off unprofitable network routes or drastic cost cutting measures. "

Keep your eye on your flights.

I already have 7 R/T tickets paid on my Visa for USAir in
Nov. Should I cancel, or get vouchers that I may be able to
use on another airline?

(Beverly, if you are out there, maybe you can advise me..)

no ones flights will be affected. in fact United now is paying usair 50 mill for the squashed deal. there is no need to worry about this. its unnecessary........usair didn't lose as much money as anticipated. in fact someone posted that article not too long agowhen someone else tried to get people upset over this fiasco deal. pay no attention to this. if USAir goes Belly up then I'm a natural blonde with green eyes thats a size 3!(and I am far from that one let me tell you!)

You should be OK for November. It's all over the news here in Pittsburgh (USAir's major hub) and from what I've heard when they say "cannot survive in the long haul" they mean in 3 or 4 years. You willn't be able to get a refund unless they actually cancel or change your flight. If you're flying from the New York area or Philadelphia, those are major cities for USAir, I don't think they'll start with cuts there.
