Washington DC Hotel suggestions

Thinking about planning a family (2 Adults/2 kids) trip to Washington DC. Can anyone recommend a hotel that is decent but won't totally break the bank?

We've stayed at the Embassy Suites Tyson Corner and the one at Dulles airport. Both times we got a deal, less that $100/night. And you get a great breakfast and free alcohol drinks each night. Plue they have indoor pool.

We went last summer and stayed at the Marriott Metro Center, which was very nice and at a great location! I won our room off of Priceline, and though I can't remember what I paid for it right this second (I think it might have been around $75/night) I can say that I paid less than 1/2 the going rate in that area for that quality of hotel. My advice would be to check out betterbiddding.com to see what people are winning off of Priceline in that area.

We are trying to plan a trip to DC too and I was wondering the same!!

Is the Embassy Suites at Tysons on the Metro line? We are wanting a hotel still on the Metro but just outside of DC. We looked at a couple in Crystal City near Reagan International Airport but haven't decided on one yet.....

Check out the Embassy Suites Chevy Chase Pavilion too. It is located in an upscale mall, and there is a metro station right in the building. (It's on the red line.) We're booked there this summer. We love Embassy Suites, the breakfast is always great and the rooms are big.

I am so glad I found this thread. We are planning a 2 week vacation this summer starting in New York state, then onto Gettysburg and then to DC. So if anyone has any recommendations for this route please recommend away. We are a family of 5. I do know that makes a difference.

Weve taken two trips to DC recently... although we stay with friends in Baltimore we have noticed that staying in the outlying suburbs seems better than staying in the city. We always park our vehicle in GreenBelt and then take the greenline metro into the city. There were several chain hotels near the park and ride that looked safe and clean.

We're planning on visiting Washington DC this summer too. There is a great thread here on the Dis. You may want to do a search. I learned alot on that thread. Several people suggested staying in Old Town Alexandria. There are hotels on the subway line that offer free parking.

We go a good rate at the Hampton Inn in Crystal City. Clean rooms, free b-fast, easy metro access, plenty of restaurants, and a pool.

i've been planning a trip myself, which, sadly, will likely be next year, due to having to replace our heat pump two weeks ago. anyway, i had my eye on the courtyard by marriott dunn loring fairfax. it has free, underground parking and is right across the street from a metro station. it is $119 per night on hotels.com right now.
