Washington DC hotel recommendations

Last time we went to DC we stayed in an airbnb in the Dupont Circle area. Two bedrooms, living room, full kitchen, full bath, about half the price of a hotel, 5 min walk to the Metro.

After reading most of the replies it really comes down to how much you can afford and are willing to spend. Many of the hotels along Pennsylvania Ave are within walking distance of the museums and make things easier. But they will be expensive. Usually $300+ a night for one room.

This is true yet I have to say that although these hotels are in the same price range of WDW's deluxe hotels you are getting a much better bang for your buck. Similar location that cut down on daily transportation costs are located on this screenshot of a map:

The Hay Adams is listed at 329/nightly but all around it are properties at much lower rates.
A quick yelp review will give you what other travelers think of the hotel's facilities.

Here's the link to the actual map that you can hover on and get the names of the hotels as well:

In my experience of doing this type of hotel search, the actual rates are (much) higher than what is shown on the map. But still, the map is an excellent guide to hotels.

Doubletree Crystal City. Beautiful views of The Pentagon and DC. Shuttle service to the subway located just down the road under Fashion City at Pentagon City mall
