Washing & re-using Swiffer WetJet& Clorox ReadyMop pads - anybody do this?

First, let me say....you ALMOST lost me on that Frugal Living link back in post #1. :rotfl: :rotfl: She uses CLOTHE TOILET PAPER that she washes. :scared1: I've heard of clothe diapers & clothes feminine pads, but this was a first for me.

Glad for this thread. I have a mop from QVC that has clothe heads that velcro on. It has 3 actually. Just use & toss in the laundry. Unfortunately, I left it at a friends house 3 months ago when she moved in...and I might not be getting it back. :rotfl:

But, I was looking at replacing it with a similar type with re-useable heads...and I like the squirting ability that some have. I DON'T like having to keep buying refills & heads. So...I might look into these options listed on this thread. Thanks so much.

Now....what can we do about having to rebuy those dust wand things. They work well....but.......

The simplest, most environmentally friendly method for me is to just wash the floor by hand with an old diaper. We have a tub of diapers from when our 15 year old twins were infants. They make great cleaning rags and get the floor much cleaner than any mop I've used. I just wring them out and wash them as usual.

Hi Splash!

It is somewhere in this thread I *think* about how to use pliers to get the cap off the SWJ solution bottle to refill it with "homemade" cleaning solution. I think the various recipes for "homemade" cleaning solution are somewhere in the links I gave. It has been a while since I've read the thread, and I have a bad memory.

I use 409 on the floors. I just spray ahead of time and then mop with the swiffer. I don't think they are that expensive but maybe I don't mop enough.

I usually have to mop the kitchen/great room daily. :)

I guess I'm super frugal...I got a Clorox Ready Mop at a rummage sale as part of a "fill a bag for a dollar" sale. The bottle was empty but attached. I took it off and filled it with Tough and Tender cleaner (we have gallons of the stuff that my MIL gave us years ago...it works great and is organic. I have no idea where she got it) and I use a rag on the mop end. I find that the spray doesn't actually hit the floor this way...I guess the rag gets in the way. I fixed this problem by flipping the mop over and spraying down onto the floor and then mopping. I only have one floor that's "moppable" so this is SO much easier than hauling out a mop and bucket. My floor gets clean, I don't have to worry about spilling a bucket of water, and it seriously only cost me pennies as I already had other items in my "fill a bag for a dollar" bag!

Oh, I also buy the "wet floor pads" at Dollar Tree. They're 20 for a dollar and work great for a quick clean up. I also buy the generic Swiffer dusters there, 2 for $1. Next time I'm going to get the dry floor dusters, like a regular Swiffer pad, to use with my previously mentioned Clorox Ready Mop, without the spray. I will use those to dust and to quickly pick up cat hair on our wood floors. They're 40 for $1. :)

Me too. I have an 18 yr old cat who is a slob when she eats. I also have another water dish upstairs where her litter box is because she has kidney disease & needs lots of water. Well, her latest thing, is to STAND in the water dish & "dig" in the water. So, water everywhere. Then she goes into the litter box (with wet feet). So, when she gets out, she tracks litter all of the bathroom floor. I'm cleaning the bathroom floor several times a day of kitty foot prints.

Since my mop is at my friends house, I've been doing it on my hands & knees. Not good for someone with a metal rod in their back.

Thanks for that. The Dollar Tree has been my latest discovery for cleaning stuff. I'll have to look for the dusters. :thumbsup2 I'm never going back to a rag to dust.

Can someone tell me what aisle they found the orange-glo reusable pads at Wal-mart. I looked at mine and I couldn't find them. I splurged on the swifter wet jet last week because we are installing wood floors in a couple of weeks. I don't want to haul out the mop every couple of days!

They are in the same area as the wetjet items. Mine is bright green and orange. I found it on the bottom shelf. A small/flat box type package.

I didn't read all the replys, so forgive any repeats.

I use old wash rags or hand towels I no longer need for dishes. Then drop them in the washing machine. Real nice for a quick clean up. When you finish with one, replace with another to have ready to go for spills. I have arthritis real bad and I can't get on my hands and knees anymore. So this helps.

Plus they scrub better than the disposible pads.

I have a ceramic tile kitchen floor and use the WetJet. But once a month I like to get on hands and knees and wash with just ammonia and water. 1/4 ammonia 3/4 water. (this was recommended cleaning by the tile manufacturer). My knees have been killing me - so I mix up the solution and put it in a spray bottle, and use the wet jet, but use my solution in the spray bottle.

I looked at my Target too and couldn't find them!

That is where they are at my local Wal-Mart too. I'll look at Target this morning when I go shopping. :)
