Washing pillows?

I need to wash the pillows on our bed (sleeping ones, not throw pillows) has anyone ever washed theirs at home or do you take them to the dry cleaners?

I wonder how that Dryel stuff would work on pillows?

Hi there. I would read the tag (unless you removed them ) and see what it says. I have washed and dried pillows many times, and the only thing I can reccommend, is make sure you put some tennis balls, or clean tennis shoes in the dryer with the pillows to keep them from getting lumpy.

I always wash our pillows, make sure you wash them in hot water.

I wouldn't dry clean them or use Dryel. Dry cleaning chemicals are pretty gross. Many doctors recommend going straight home after you pick up the dry cleaning, with the car windows open, and then taking the plastic off and letting your clothes air out a few days before you wear them again. I don't think I'd want to put my head on a dry cleaned pillow with nothing but a pillow case between it and my nose.

I agree that you can just wash them in the machine. They should be fine. And if they are old and fall apart, pillows go on sale for really cheap all the time, unless you use the down ones.

Ok, I really know nothing about washing pillows, LOL, but I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to wash them in pairs to balance the load. And I agree with Kermit on the dry cleaning opinions.

Thanks guys - I guess I'll find out some time how it works.

Good point Kermit - it's weird how many pillows say "dry clean only" though. I guess I never thought about it.
