Washing Machine Recommendations?

Speed Queen. No frills, top loading. They are usually sold by independent retailers. They also manufacture commercial washing machines. They last about 20 years. American made.

I soooo love my Speed Queen top loader! I did get their higher end for certain features but I love that it's made in the USA, the gears are metal, not plastic, and it has an excellent warranty (I'm on the train right now so I don't know it off the top of my head).
It also takes about 35 mins from beginning to end for a heavy duty load. It's so fast I have 2 dryers to keep up with it.

The big box stores don't carry it and that's fine by me too. I like supporting our local family-owned stores.

My husband says Lowe’s carries them as well as Famous Tate.

Our appears to be dead. I won't spend the $$ for top of the line, as in my experience top of the line didn't last any longer than an average brand. What do you have and how has it lasted? Value for your $$?

I have an LG top loader (no agitator) and dryer. Had them both for 6 years. Dryer starting to not dry as well, but I think part of that is because the vent pipe needs to be cleaned. Washer works great. Paid less than $700 for the pair.

Really? They didn't when we bought ours 2 yrs ago.

We bought a Maytag HD about a year ago and I hate it with a passion. We have already had to have it repaired as the electrical sensors would "read" only part of the time. Our appliance repairman said that was a common problem. Even when it washes, the clothes come out dirty and have to be rewashed. I cannot wait to replace it but replacing is not in the budget for a few years to come. Never again will I buy an HD washer.

Speed Queen top loader hands down. Had a Samsung front loader from Lowes. We will never get another front loader again!!

I want a speed queen. I used to manage rental houses and the guys who install and repair told me Speed Queen was the best. Right now I have a fairly basic Whirlpool that I bought new 3 years ago. It's just me so it's used very lightly, maybe 2 loads per week. I have had to replace the actuator 4 times. It's an easy fix and I can buy the part for about $30 on Amazon, but at some point my dad is going to get sick of repairing it every 6-9 months and I'll have spent a few hundred dollars on parts and going to the laundromat while I wait for parts.

This is funny. I always read the washing machine posts because I know I'm going to need one sooner or later. This thread has been a clean sweep for Speed Queen.
