Washing machine opinions, please!

hubby and i bought a new w/d set from sears on black friday '08. it's the sears brand front loaders. they're i think the mid-priced ones. they were on sale for $499/set that year.

new baby = lots of laundry...

new set = 200k sets ordered = got them in march '09!!

i stuff mine until i can't get the door shut sometimes and i haven't had a problem. hubby has noticed a big drop in our water usage with them.

now if i can get somebody out tomorrow to stop the leak with my a/c. :sad1:

Her's something to think about... My washer broke (ancient) about 18 mos ago and had to have a front loader. Six people = tons of wash. Front loader does larger loads BUT I didn't need to buy a dryer... Now the large loads I stuff into the washer have to be separated into two loads to dry. Doesn't really save me any time!!!

The repairman just left and it was the water pump (leak) and valve (slow filling). Total repair w/labor is $200! Yeah! The only problem is when I asked him if the front loader would be worth it for our large family, he said "yes". Uuugghh! I really wanted to be happy with just repairing it. We still are going through with the repairs and hopefully I'll forget about the front loaders after a while and be happy again with my old one! This is why I don't go to the malls, I'm happy with what I've got until I see what I don't have!:lmao:

Thanks, again, for all the wonderful advice! And a special thanks to CathrynRose!

I just got a new Maytag Bravos top load washer and love it It has no agitator so it can hold a lot of clothes and uses very little water It was the highest rated top load model by Consumer Reports

We bought the top loading agitator'less Bravo washer/dryer set a couple of months ago. For the most part I am loving it. I was so thrilled to get away from the Gibson front loader we had for years (it performed well, but I developed a peeve about the tangled heap of laundry that would invariably fall on the floor every time I tried to empty the washer) but almost from day one I started getting "OL" error messages w/the Bravo. Manual stated that it was an "overloaded" message, but there was no way I was overloading it! I knew I was well below the recommended load capacity. Grrr. It actually acted more like an "out of balance" issue because repositioning the load would always fix the problem. Had a repairman out. He replaced the "board". So far, two more "OL" messages. Sigh. They're less frequent now yet still an issue. Wanting to love this machine but it's making it difficult to do so.

My Dh is at home right now taking my washer apart, hoping it is only the belt. It is a Maytag Atlantis and it is almost 7 years old and I have not had a minutes trouble.
