Anyone else use a wash and fold service?
i started last month.
For me and my son it cost about 60 dollars a month (its 90 cents a lb for the first 10 lbs then 80 cents a lb for anything over 10lbs )
I save about 15 dollars in laundry detergent , prob about 5 dollars of water , about 8 in electric and gas, and about 10 hours of my time...
the place is directly on my drive home from work , so it cost no gas/ no time to drop off pick up.
I still do my own towels and sheets once a week.. but those are easy .. no need to babysit them for wrinkles

its wayyyyy worth it to me..

Anyone else do it? Thinking about doing it? What are the prices for it in your area?

No I have never used a laundry service. I hate doing laundry....but I don't feel comfortable letting someone else do it. There are some things that need cold water only, some I hang up and not dry. I use specific laundry products.... so I am sure a service would not have a variety of choices to choose from. I don't know....as much as I don't like to do that job.... I just can't get around letting someone else do it.

However...thanks for posting this...it was a good reminder to get off DIS and do some laundry. :laundy: :rotfl:

Plus there are 5 of us...can't imagine how much that would cost.:scared1:

I'm curious to know the going rates for this. We only have one company in my area that I'm aware of that offers this service and they are out of my way. I'm a family of 4 so I wouldn't even know how many pounds of laundry we do a month.

I don't now that I'm working from home, but when I worked full time in an office this was my favorite mom's helper secret. The place I used also took DH's shirt and ironed them. For our family of 4 it was about 80 per month. Totally worth it.

I would love that. I hate...hate....HATE doing laundry. I would rather just buy new clothes :rotfl2: I live in a small town and this service is not offered. My sister would do it from time to time when she was extra busy, she lives in a more metropolitan area.

I've recently started doing this in the past few months. It's $1/lb. DGF is at school during the week and home on the weekends, so it's all of my laundry, and just what she uses on weekends. (Oddly, that comes out to being half hers and half mine it seems :confused3)

I go roughly every two weeks, and it's $20-25 each time. Our apartment doesn't have a washer/dryer, so formerly we would have to go to the laundromat anyway... and for the same period of time we'd be spending $10-15 there anyway. This is money WELL SPENT to let them do it!

Not only is it all folded, but any of my nicer clothes (which I only rarely wear) they put on hangers... can't beat the value.

Prior to buying our house, we lived in a studio apt and we used this service from a laundromat near our work. DH used it as a bachelor and when I moved (we lived in sin:rolleyes1)I got hooked on it. We paid 80 cents per lb. - but that was approx. 5 years ago. It was worth every penny to us.

DH used to say It would be a bargain at twice the price!

I don't know if we have this service around here, but I can't believe you spend that much a month on laundry detergent. I bought a big bottle at Sam's Club a few months ago for $15 and I still have over half of it. So for my family of 4, we use $15 in laundry detergent in about 4 months.

For the time savings though, big thumbs up!!! Now if they'd only put it away.....

I love that this thread popped up, I have been sick with pneumonia for the last 2 weeks and have done no laundry. My husband has been washing his uniforms for work on his own but the rest of the laundry is just piling up. I am taking it to the wash and fold tonight because it would take me forever to catch up on the 4 full baskets we have.

My place does it for 90 cents a pound. For me it's a deal but I'll only take it this time because i'm so behind and would never catch up.

We live in a building and have to use either the building's laundry room or go to the laundromat anyway so we use wash & fold service for all the things I would toss in the dryer. We pay around $80ish a month - I think the price is 80 cents per pound. I would probably cost me $30-35 plus supplies to wash & dry this amount of laundry every month. I love that we can drop off in the morning and pick it up that evening. Every thing is folded so nicely, socks matched. It would take 2-3 hours to get all the laundry done from start to finish 9eta) 3 times a month - now it takes 20 minutes to put everything together, drop it off, pick it up & put it away.

Every other week, I do 1-2 loads of hang up clothes & delicates that don't go in the dryer.

Do they iron your clothes?

Everything I tend to buy lately, needs ironing.

The place I go does not but they seem to fold everything right out of the dryer b/c nothing they wash really needs to be ironed.

Back in Florida most places were 75 cents to a dollar a pound. I never did use the service but I don't like people washing my clothes. My grandmother used to do it when I was in school and it bugged the heck out of me. No one touches my undies.

I'm unaware of any service like that in my area. I used to take DH's dress shirts to the dry cleaner, but they always came back dirty...they said they couldn't use bleach because it would damage the fabric, so I had to wash them first!?! I started doing them myself and I save $2 a shirt and they look so much better, I'm picky. We have a well so we don't pay water and I use very little detergent, I don't mind doing laundry. Now grocery shopping is a different story!

People who don't think they have wash & fold service should check out a few laundromats - if you have those :). There are two near me, one with a sign hanging outside and one with the information painted on the window, but none at the other end of the city where almost everyone has washers/dryers.

I'm on an almost no-spend month, but when I'm done that's going to be one of my splurges. For now, I have enough clean clothes to get me through at least ten days.

I've thought about this before, but realized that what I really need is a put-the-laundry-away service. I'm fine with washing and folding. It's the ferrying it all around to every room in the house that I hate!

You previously spent $15 per month on laundry detergent?!? I always buy a $20 box (on sale) of Sears powdered detergent, which lasts my family of 4 for at least half of a year.

I don't mind doing laundry, folding and hanging, but I do hate putting it away. So, unless the laundry service came to my house and put in away in the drawers and closets, I wouldn't be happy. ;)

I used to use this service but haven't used it in quite some time. Although I hate going to the laundromat, I'm fine once I get there. I usually bring the newspaper with me or my coupon binder to organize or a book or some "busy work" to do while waiting for the dryers to finish.

:thumbsup2

LOL I hate putting laundry away too. It usually sits folded in a basket for at least ONE DAY..... sometimes two. :rolleyes1
