My DH and I were shoping for a treadmill but I have to admit the prices had me:scared1: . The one my Dh really thinks would be worth the money for us was $1099:scared1: and that was after the $300 sale for Presidents Day:eek: . We are very tall people ( I am 6' he is 6'4) so he felt we needed a nice one for stride length:confused3
So my question is do you feel like your money was well spent on your treadmill? I am a SAHM and my DH is in the Air Force so this is a big ticket item for us:laughing:

We have Precor and yes, it was pricey, but well worth it in MHO. My DH and I are on the "short" side (5'5") but the belt length was important as he is a runner and I am a walker, but needed to make sure he could get the stride he would want/need.

I use the tm faithfully, DH only when he can't run outdoors. We have not had any problems with the one we have and so I say "go for one that will meet your needs" so that you WILL use it..............

Our treadmill has been money well spent. We purchased a ProForm Crosstrainer for somewhere in the neighborhood of $450 (SAHM here, too). DH is 6'2" and can run on ours with no problems at all. Definitely go for the one that will work the best for your height...that way you'll have no excuse not to use it.

We purchased ours back in 2004, and I'll admit that it sat unused for the better part of a year. Since 2005, though, it's been used daily by at least one member of our household.

I love that I have a TM at home. It is used by all of us with various ability levels. It has had some periods of "clothing rack" time, but it is much used these last several years. We (DH and I) also have membership to a gym, but this provides convenience when we just can't get there and want to do "something."

You've got to use it though or it is a really expensive clothing rack. ;)

Thanks for the help. We ae going to go back out this week and keep shopping.:cool1:

I live in Chicago and I wouldn't jog for 5 months out of the year without one. You live in Alaska - no brainer. Check out Sears, I have found them to have good prices on quality equipment when they have sales.

I get more exercise now with a tm than before without it...it still gets used all the time and it is 3 years old. Our proform was in the $800 range

Go for length and track width.

Honestly I thought that it would be collecting dust by now, so glad its not :cool1:

The treadmill he really likes is a Nordic Trac. It has a wide and cushy track. I think we will go back and check it out this weekend. I need to decide in the next day or two before the sale ends.

Hi natenapril,
I love my Nordic Trac. I have an older model - about 3 years old. Something like APEX 4100 or something like that (I am not at home). It was actually a return and was about half price $750.00. We purchased it at Sears and bought the 3 year warranty because it was a return. Never needed the warranty. We use it everyday and have for over 3 years. My wife and I keep separate training schedules so only one of us uses it every day.

I'll tell you, l when I am on the road and go to gyms or workout rooms in hotels I am disappointed in their equipment. Their treadmills don't compare, at least in comfort. They might have more bells and whistles, like built in TV's :) but mine is so comfortable and the track is as you said, wide and cushy. It has the most comfortable track I have ever run on.

Since I now run outside on weekends, I do give it a rest on Saturday. It deserves it after all these years of service.

Just a tip, we bought a cheap used one out of the newspaper just to see if we'd use it. Figured if it was going to turn into a clothes rack, I'd rather have a $200 clothes rack instead of a $1,000 clothes rack. After 6 months or so we realized that yes, we will use it, we went out and bout the Nordic Trac.

I am sure there are others that are good, but I know I made the right choice.
enjoy,
Duane

Another Yes vote from me.

We have a PaceMaster Gold which was about $2K. I just started training for a couple of half marathons and marathons later this year. With the cold/icy weather we have had the last couple of weeks, I wouldn't have been able to get any running in without it. Just be forewarned that it can be boring at times, so just make sure you are going to use it. I know many people who purchased a very expensive piece of equipment they use now as a clothes rack! :sad2:

When figuring out which treadmill to buy, I found the reviews and information on www.treadmilldoctor.com to be very useful.

HTH,
Dan.

I am glad to hear you liked your Nordic Trac!! The one we like has speakers with an plug in for an IPOD too. I think we may splurge this weekend and buy it!!
